Casting Kevin Bacon

Date : July 25, 2015

Category : Film questions

Question :

Hello, Simon.

I know that Michael J. Fox was voice actor for Balto, but later Kevin Bacon became Balto's voice actor. I feel, choice of the voice for characters plays a very big role. So, if Balto's actor still was Michael J. Fox, we would get absolute different character (the same thing with Steele). Right?

What made you cast Kevin Bacon over Michael J. Fox as Balto?

Well if that is his, then it may very well be correct (had she noted that earlier, it might have saved a ton of discussion time. lol)

That link provided is the blog of Jeffrey Varab who was the lead animator for Balto (the character) on the movie therefore it is highly possible that he is correct.

It could very well have come from nowhere. Again, just because somebody says something on the internet doesn't make it true, Byanca. People say that all the time...it's even an internet meme for crying out loud!

The person who posted those claims didn't give any proof, and there is no proof anywhere else on the internet. Once again, I am pretty sure Simon's going to tell you that Michael J. Fox didn't do a voice test. And if I am wrong, then I'll admit it. But I really don't believe I am. Because I looked...everywhere. And there's nothing from any reliable source. The page you linked is the only one anywhere that says it. And that same page provides no proof.

And it couldn't come from nowhere (I'm about Michael J. Fox as Balto's voice actor).

It is possible. But we'll see when Simon considers your question. But if I were you, I wouldn't believe it just because someone posted a blog on a website saying that the actor did a voice test. There is no scanned copy of a call sheet (which is used in the industry, on a particular movie or television series) to list a day's particular scheduled tasks and assignments. There is no copy of a recording and, again, there is nothing on the model sheet to indicate anything other than it being an art study in the development of the character.

I agree with you. However, this man (or fan) could write a random actor. So, the role of Michael J Fox may be really possible.

Okay, and that may be possible. But nothing written on that model sheet says anything at all about Michael J. Fox and a voice test. Nor does the website you referenced (which is a fan's site, not a site affiliated with either Universal Studios or Steven Spielberg) provide a sample of the voice test that it refers to. Nor any proof that it ever occurred.

I have a feeling that Simon Wells may say that this fan was in error. Or he may not. However, there is no irrefutable evidence that I can find anywhere, from any official source (the studio or anyone who worked there at the time) that Michael J. Fox had anything to do with this.

Just because a fan says something on a website doesn't necessarily make it true (even if they made the website themselves). Especially if they provide no references, resources, or photographic evidence.

Byanca, where do you get this notion that Michael J. Fox was ever cast originally as Balto for the movie? There is nothing on the Internet Movie Database about that (either on his page, or the Balto page), nothing on the Balto Wiki, nothing even in a general Google search which would give any information on this.
