I recently came across a live action movie that has some striking similarities with Balto 3: Wings of Change. It's called Wings of Courage and it's based on the true story about a group of French pilots in South America in 1930 that try to establish an air mail system between South America and France. One of the pilots crashes in the Andes Mountains during a snow storm and is forced to walk out on his own because no one knows where he is. Meanwhile, his wife and dog are waiting anxiously at home for him to return. 

Did this movie or the events it was based off of serve as an inspiration to the plot line of Balto 3 or is it merely a coincidence?

That film's rather unknown, and I can same several films that have plane crashes and rescues in them. Plus, there are so, so many films out with similar plots and with such demand for fresh, original ideas, it's certain some films are going to be alike. I seriously doubt it, but then again, I've never seen Phil Weinstein's DVD collection. There might have been some subconcscious plagiarism, but if you ask me, it's purely coincidence.
