Balto: A breath-taking experience, October 26, 2010

As we know, this film was published based on the real story, but, in a way, I prefer this version better. Balto 1 creates a visual setting, complete with well-thought-out, developed characters, and strong family values.

During the film, we learn not only about the characters, but tidbits of their pasts (esp. Balto) as well as their likes, dislikes, and "rankings" in Nome. This is something rarely done in most animated films, and the fact that during the first 15 minutes you have an idea of the plot is perfect, esp. for younger children that will watch this film, and have difficulty grasping plots.

The film shows true moral and family values. For instance, Jenna`s "ability" to be the only one in Nome to realize Balto`s true potential as a hero show others not to judge a book by its cover, and to "see into the souls" of others. Balto`s wolfdog heritage but amazing abilities show us that a true hero is not always dressed up and beautiful, and certainly not perfect. Yet, it shows inperfectness proves a better understanding and grasp on what it means to be a real hero. Steele`s agnorance and pefection prove that being the best isn`t everything, and not to exclude the others; they might be saving you one day. Shouldn`t all kids know these values, what with the harassment all over the news these days?

However, this film is in a couple ways inappropriate, esp. the scene between Jenna and Steele in the boiler room. It was just a tad bit overdone, and something similiar to what I would be watching, and I`m no kid, but no adult, either.

This movie also tones down voilence. Whenever someone falls or is hurt, no blood is present, and carefully skilled animators make harsh knocks seem like little bumps. The fact that they can do this, but still hold the interest of the audience is perfect.

Well, there`s my reveiw.

Thank you, and have a nice day!
