Thalia´s Quest
A rabbit sat eating in the grass. Sudden it twitched it’s ears. It sniffed the air and started running. A big black wolf was after it. After a few seconds the wolf grabbed the rabbit and shook it ´till it wasn’t moving anymore.
Two young wolves played in front of a small den. The female one nipped the ear of the male he yelped. A white female with grey markings on her face and her front paws came out of the den, smiled at her pups, sat down and watched the sky. The two pups stopped playing and ran over to their mother who watched the clouds moving. The black male came through the bushes over to his family. He put down the rabbit and gave his mate a nuzzle. The pups took the rabbit and gnaw at it, growling at each other. The male rushed over to them and put his paw of the prey. “Demon, Thalia, how often have I told you that good wolves aren’t fighting with their family.” He took the rabbit in his snout and bit it in two parts. Now the pups are eating noiseless.
At night…
Thalia woke up. She looked around. The den was illuminated by moonlight. Her brother was still sleeping. Her parents weren’t there. She stood up very careful not to wake her brother. The ten week old female stepped out of the cave to search for her parents. She walked for about five minutes as she found a trail of blood. She sniffed at it, it smelled familiar. Thalia followed the trail through some bushes and the familiar scent became stronger. She looked around and found the source of the scent; her mother laid moveless in the grass. Thalia rushed over to her mother and licked her cheek, she was cold. “Mommy wake up, we have to find dad!” Aurora wasn’t moving. “Please stand up.” The pup nudged her mother but she was still not moving. Then Thalia saw her mother’s chest, it was ripped open and the rest of her body was covered from blood of several wounds. Her soft white and grey fur was almost red from all the blood. She looked terrible. She was killed by a beast, slaughtered. Thalia was shocked. She cried. “No mommy, no! You can’t die! Please stand up and tell me that the blood isn’t yours.” She laid down next to the body of her dead mother, crying. She thought: “What do I do now? Where is dad? Is he dead too? Why wasn’t her there to save mom?” Thalia howled to call the pack. She felt so alone; a lonely, ten week old pup without a mother. Suddenly Thalia heard a howl; it was Raksha, the beta male. She knew that they will be there soon. She hoped that her father is with them.
After two minutes the pack arrived; Raksha the beta male, Candira his mate, Old Grey the oldest pack member even Hazel Tallulah and Admirado the three young adults from the last year – the whole pack was there exepts Demon and Kenai her father.
Raksha stepped over to Thalia and her mother. “What happened?” The crying Thalia lifted her head. “I don´t know. I… I just woke up and walked out to search for her and dad, and then… then I found a trail of blood and…” She collapsed crying. Candira trotted over to Thalia and licked her tears away. “ It´s ok.” She grabbed the pup’s neck and carried her away from this cruel place to her den.
The other pack members stared speechless at the lifeless body of their alpha female. “What shall we do now? Where is Kenai? And who has done this to Aurora?” Raksha turned his head to the female wolf who has spoken. “I don´t know, Hazel, but we’ll find out what happened, I promise.” Kitok, who was called “Old Grey” stepped towards the corpse, sniffed at it, walked over to the others and said: “It was a wolf who killed her. Probably… “He paused and looked down “Probably Kenai.” Everyone was quiet. Suddenly a voice killed the silence. “Why?” It was Admirado, a young adult male who admired the alpha. Raksha stepped out of the crowd. “I think he murdered Aurora and ran away so he won’t be punished. He will never come back. Maybe we will never know why he has done this to his mate.”
The pack howled their goodbye to Aurora’s spirit and trotted back home.
Candira waited in front of her den with the still crying Thalia on her paws for her pack-mates. As they arrived Candira stood up and nuzzled Raksha. Everyone was upset about loosing the alpha female.
Raksha looked at his mate and asked: “Does Demon know what happened?” “No. I think It´s better to tell him tomorrow.”
