“No, that’s enough! I can’t stay here!! I must go” Meredith thought in her mind, her father already made mistakes but this time was really enough for her: first sending away her brother D’Leh only because he didn’t want as a mate the she wolf that he found and now sent the hunters to find something during a snow storm.  Yes, Meredith noticed what his father ordered and she decided to left the pack to search her brother:  she couldn’t stay there anymore! The female wolf took her decision and when all the pack fell asleep, she left and tried to search her brother, but sooner she knew that the soft snow was changing into a snow storm and Meredith was far from the pack but she didn’t want to return back! She couldn’t!

The snow and the cold wind were like knives that injured Meredith’s body and she was really tired…she stopped “I must find a save place…” but she fell on the snow, panting and exhausted…she saw a shadow walking close to her, a big body, a male body “K-Knosso…?” she whispered but she fainted and all began black around her…Meredith was like in a big empty and black room, obviously alone, when suddenly something warm illuminated an angle of the room and the female walked to that direction and when she touched the light, she finally opened her eyes and she returned to the world; the grey and white female in a second, looked at the place around her, she was under a pine, a big one, the branches of the pine were very big  and strong and they were covered of snow, the space under  them, at the base of the tree,  had not been touched by the soft snow, that had gone instead to form a white coat to the old pine. Meredith tried to wake but her right frontal leg ached and she sat “Calm down!” started a male voice “your leg is not ready to walk…” the female saw a black back with a big red spot on it “Can you show me your face or I have to talk with your back all the time?!” she said, a little angry, the wolf looked at her, two deep green eyes were looking at her “sorry” he chuckled “my name’s  Jan, not Ian, Jan!” he finished, Meredith was caught from that eyes “Oh, yes, I’m Meredith, nice to meet you Jan” she said “is a pleasure to meet you too, Meredith” replied Jan “but, can I ask you a question?” he asked “sure…” said Meredith, curious “what the hell were you doing in a snow storm alone!!” said Jan, the female was irritated but she replied “I..I was searching my brother…that’s all…” Jan didn’t say anything, he only sat close to her and waited. Meredith still had her sad face, Jan’s question remembered her the reason of that “suicide” in the snow storm, her brother, her father, too many problems were in her head and now, she was injured too , it wasn’t the best of the moments but she couldn’t stop to watch Jan, he totally “captured” her; Meredith never fell in love with anyone, she didn’t find her perfect mate, she tried for her father’s happiness but, but  you can’t force someone to do something.

After some time Jan looked at her “Err…there-there’s something wrong?” he started “You didn’t say a word” Meredith was still in silence, yes, she was a bit scared of Jan, and of all the strangers males for a bad episode happened time ago, when she was still a pup, but something in her was saying that she could trust him, that he was not a bad guy “Sorry, it’s just…I’m tired and the leg hurts” she finally said, Jan noticed that her leg hurted , she had a bad wound “well, so, lay down here, I know, it’s cold but it was the better place I found” he replied, embarrassed maybe because he failed to find a warm and comfortable place to keep her safe, suddenly an idea came in his mind “Maybe I can carry her in the grou..no, never, never, never, never!

She’s wounded too…” he thought in his mind “Well, for now, we have to wait that the story will finish” he said “we will stay here…” he finished Meredith laid “Fine for me…” she said and tried to sleep, Jan laid close to her, the wind was very cold and the two had to try to survive because the big pine wasn’t like a cave, it was in the outside, Meredith frozen when she felt Jan’s fur next to her, the only males “allowed” to stay very close to her were her father and her brothers and now, she was blushing a lot but luckily for her, Jan didn’t noticed it. Jan’s body was warm and Meredith fell asleep fast, she felt safe close to him and she dreamed wild spring lands, where she was with her family, finally with her loved brother Knosso (of course with D’Leh too) and with Jan…but the night left the earth and a new day came, Meredith woke but Jan wasn’t next to her, she searched him “Jan? Jan where are you?”, again a shadow appeared, yes, it was Jan with a rabbit inside his mouth “Here” he said “you must eat something or your leg never  be better” “oh, hey, thanks! I was very hungry” and she ate all the rabbit, her stomach was so long empty! It wasn’t a big meal but, enough for now “Woha! You were very hungry!” Jan chuckled “I told you I was!” she chuckled too. Meredith and Jan stayed under that tree until that Meredith’s leg was fine, after they searched a better place because, well, a tree is not the best of the repairs!  

They walked for some hours, without finding anything, Jan was a bit pissed: it could not be possible that there wasn’t a repair, a cave or something like that! Meredith, obviously, noticed that “Is there something wrong?” she asked “Why the hell there’s not a darned repair here!!!” he shouted, mad “Calm down, I’m sure we’ll find something…” “When? Where!” Jan interrupted her and Meredith didn’t know what to reply…night arrived as cold as always in that season, a frozen cold, every animal in the forest was warm and safe in their homes but Jan and Meredith were still walking “Jan please, I’m very tired I can’t continue….” Said Meredith, tired “Ok, ok…look, there’s a cave down there, probably some bears live there for a while” he said with a terrifying calm voice but she followed him inside. The cave was big, but wet and empty plus the wind blew inside too and it was cold as outside but inside the cave it didn’t snow and the two could relax themselves “Brr!! It’s cold here!” said Meredith, sitting on the floor “Well, it’s not the best but we can stay here…to feel warm we should…” Jan didn’t finish the sentence, he was embarrassed “We should sleep close” Meredith finished the sentence for him “What’s the problem, if you want to die freeze, free to do it” she said “No, no…I..oh Lord!  I didn’t mean that!” he replied, still embarrassed “I know!” chuckled Meredith and she laid down, tired, Jan laid close to her , their body were warm and both fast fell asleep…

Next morning Meredith woke up alone again, but she knew that Jan went away to find something to eat, he was so protective and so thoughtful as no one was with her, he saved her and took care of her…but she could really trust him? He was still a stranger, she knew Jan only few ago…something told Meredith that she could and so she did it. After a while that she was awake, Jan returned, this time he had only two squirrels because with that weather was very difficult hunt something decent for a wolf’s stomach but they were lucky because they could eat something, small but something. The winter was still angry with the creatures and it continue to sent snowy storms and freezing wind; Meredith and Jan stayed in the cave for some time but it wasn’t a real repair, it was cold inside and it was all wet,  both slept together, close, to feel warm but that wasn’t enough.

Anyway, sleeping together made Jan and Meredith more closer, first they were two strangers, one that saved the other one and now, they were like mates, best friends, like a couple but no one would never admit it…they were slowly falling in love.

After some weeks Meredith asked a question to Jan, she was always be curious of why he hasn’t got a pack, why he was all alone, she wasn’t sure if that was a good idea because he never talked about packs, family, siblings but the curiosity was too strong “Hey Jan, do you mind if ask you a question?” she finally asked “Depends what kind of question” she hesitated a moment “Do have or had a pack? A family? I always wondered why you’re alone…” he didn’t replied but he could not stay in silence, since she had all the rights to ask him that question “I-I don’t like to talk about it…” “hmmm..ok…I suppose that happened something bad to
