History:
Timbre was born in one of a very few traveling herds of marsh deer. Fewer left the south, as the land above was hot and dry. But over many years, Timbre's leash made it across, all the way up to the mountains of the Carolinas.
This is where a doe gave birth to twins, born into a life of travel: Timbre and Minuet. Both were strong fawns, but their late-season birth in November forced the small herd to settle into a mountain herd for the winter to come.
Among deer nothing travels faster than word and while Timbre's family was settled in, news of these traveling marsh deer spread very quickly and they were known as a gypsy herd. These gypsies all had artistic talents they would hone and use to entertain others and gain a place to sleep at night.
While the gypsy herd was still, though, Timbre's mother grew sick and couldn't recover in the highland winter. She died shortly after. The snow fell through the winter though, and unusual as it was, Timbre grew to love the cold - a thicker coat had developed within the gypsy herd, but none but fawns seemed to actually enjoy the snow.
Timbre continued to love it, though, as he grew into a fine young buck and travel began once more. The herd eventually ended up in Maine by the rut.
The herd came up with a plan, though, after having crossed many highways. They found a place where in between the busy roads there was a wide gap of trees and a bridge with a stream. They went under the bridge and to the median, and they settled there for the winter.
All the deer occasionally left the safety of the median and soon found a herd a way off. Timbre and Minuet soon decided to visit it and when they found it, they found no opposition.
Minuet made an impression, for she could dance like a show horse and did so for all to see. Such made several bucks mad for this exotic doe.
Timbre did not. He stayed away on the outskirts mostly, occasionally telling stories to help does deal with troublesome fawns. He made no impression, no statement, and had no effect.
Not until one day, when he was grazing with the herd for the day, wanting to escape the noise of the highway. A doe suddenly rushed up to him, standing almost under his head. She was pursued by a buck who stopped short upon seeing Timbre.
The doe told the pursuer that this was the buck she would stand with in the rut, and he, angry, left.
The doe then turned to Timbre and apologized for that. She failed to recognize him and told him her name was Gurri, the daughter of the great prince.
Timbre told her his own name and, upon realizing he was a gypsy, she showed much more interest in him.
The two stayed together and spoke extensively that day, and Timbre soon found out Gurri was meant to have a mate chosen this year. Her father and brother had approved of three: Basil, Javal, and a lifelong friend, Nocturne.
She wanted none of the three. She and Timbre grew close though, and he came to quite like Gurri. He began to hope that perhaps he could find favor with the prince.
No favor would come though. Timbre was not even considered to be part of the herd. And Basil and Javal soon looked at him as a competitor and Timbre was pushed to the outsides of the herd, forbidden from being near them.
He saw Gurri anyway as she went to find him, and he would meet her. Eventually, Nocturne followed Gurri and reported back to Bambi. News spread and Basil, in a fit of outrage, led a small brace of three other bucks to chase Timbre off.
The unusual antlers of a marsh deer, like nothing he ever fought, were not anticipated by Basil and one fatal blow caught him in the neck with sharp burred tines, tearing his throat. Basil died shortly thereafter and Timbre was forced out of the herd, never to be allowed to return. Geno guarded Gurri closely for some time after to ensure that she didn't run off.
When Timbre returned to the gypsy herd that day it was decided they would stay at the median, safe from hunters and predators.
Timbre agreed, wondering if perhaps he could see Gurri again, but through that winter her memory faded painfully, and he hoped for one thing only: that she would end up with her childhood friend, Nocturne.
Meanwhile, he would explore around the forest in hope of finding another herd to entertain.
And after some travel, he met the Silver Herd, who he stayed with quite frequently before integrating into the herd and becoming apart of it. He still very regularly visited his sister Minuet and the others, but they all knew he had found where he wanted to stay. He enjoyed this unusual life between two herds.
