Build: Fit, if not a bit slender, with a finely shaped head and long legs. Otherwise unnotable.

Personality

Personality: Demanding. Vertrou is very insistant and demands complete obedience. If he doesn’t get something he wants, he will do everything in his power to acquire it, but won’t do so on unnoble grounds. He abides to the law that binds all deer – instinct – and won’t go to humanish lengths to achieve anything. Up until meeting Bukuri and Hasslich, he believes he and Lojalis belong together as the last two Silver-backs. He puts on a great show of being quite powerful and even a bit cold, but he deeply wishes that he could gain the approval of Hasslich. Vertrou really doesn’t enjoy being alone in all honesty, but prefers not to show that – he’d rather be at the top, with everyone looking up to him.

History

Not much is known about Vertrou’s past. In fact, he can’t remember most of it – it was something his mind didn’t wish to remember.

He was born in a private property, for his parents knew that the landowner was good and valued their lives. They had children who often played in the woods and would not allow people to go and shoot at animals, as they knew that the hunters in the area were trigger-happy.

So for the early months of Vertrou’s life, all was well. Occasionally, a young Vertrou enjoyed watching the children play, jumping the streams back and forth and resting on the massive thick grapevines, which had to be at least 8 centimeters thick.

He enjoyed his life with his parents, and often asked them about their breed. He’d seen white-tails, but never others like himself. They told him that there were few left, and that he would one day have to find another to become his mate.

Vertrou had a sibling. He was smaller and weaker than Vertrou, but Vertrou cared about him deeply. He taught him to walk, jump, and play, and before too long, he and his brother jumped across the stream, just like the children.

But Vertrou’s life was about to change.

A pair of thuggish teens had decided that deep in the large forested property, the family who actually owned it would never know if they shot a few deer. They didn’t even know that the antlers they would obtain from their task would rot away within a month.

But they found Vertrou and his family. They were amazed and shot at all four – they hit Vertrou’s mother, killing her with the first shot. His brother was dead with four shots, his father was shot three times in the flank, twice in the leg, and finally once in the head. It took mutilating a pelt they so desperately wanted to bring the buck down, and they later bragged about their ridiculously crappy shot. They skinned all three, and took Vertrou’s father’s antlers.

They rotted away quickly, thus making it impossible to prove their new species. They were accused of being a hoax, and when they mistakenly objected, saying that there was a fourth and where it was, they were arrested for trespassing, illegal possession of a gun, and poaching. Vertrou was terrified when people came to try to find him and ran.

He found his way to Bambi’s forest. When he did, his mind had already blocked out the events which had led him there, and his life began again.
