Has 3 antlers that never shed, but continue to grow. They are 20X denser than regular deer antlers and are literally hard as steel--these are side-effects from the drug he was given. Also has a hideous scar around his yellow-eye, which has no pupil. The eye was implanted in his skull after an eye infection almost took his life. The yellow eye belonged to Nacht. Zayn often has 'ghost visions'--visions from the past (from "The Untaken Path"); and things that only Nacht saw/could see (like spirits).

Mercutio:
Wants to befriend Mercutio because Corvin trusts him. Mercutio is very impressed with Zayn and marvels at his knowledge of the world. Is also impressed with (and envious of) Zayn's 3 antlers.

 Soleil:
Soleil is wildly enamored by Zayn's remarkable brain power. Because she is such a curious doe, she is constantly impressed with the fact that Zayn can answer all of her worldly questions with precision and comprehension. Because Zayn is also an incredibly handsome buck, Soleil can't help but have a bit of a crush on him, especially since he's so nice to Corvin.

Corvin- Although Zayn is very polite and kind to him, Corvin can't help but feel an inexplicable mistrust for Zayn, especially since it will be obvious on a few occasions that Sol is impressed with him.

Personality:

Zayn is super-intelligent due to a pharmaceutically enhanced drug that he was injected with since he was born. Because of his enhanced cognitive functions, every deer he meets is astounded by his brilliance and knowledge of the world. Because he's far more intelligent than even most humans, Zayn is able to manipulate the small minds of his fellow species and convince them to do his will. He comes off as extremely friendly, helpful and compassionate, especially with those he must be watchful of (because Corvin is dangerous, Zayn is extra-nice to him). Zayn feels his intelligence entitles him to anything he wants in the wild; be it does, food or territory...especially does. Zayn has ambitious expectations when it comes to breeding, and only the finest and most intelligent does will do. He refuses to tell anyone where he came from.

Likes:

Manipulating others, when others look up to him for his intelligence, showing off his brilliance for the does (especially Soleil), is especially pleased when even Mercutio is impressed with his knowledge.

Dislikes:

When Corvin is around (though he goes out of his way to remain polite), when his yellow eye "activates" and shows him visions from the past and spirits---he fears the spirits. He hates it when other bucks challenge him, as he feels he's too evolved to stoop down to their level, even though his antlers are virtually indestructible.

Bio:

Zayn was born on the same breeding farm as Nacht; his parentage, however, is unknown. He was found by the new owner (Nacht killed the last owner of the farm) covered with blood and placenta; born premature. His mother had abandoned him, so he was taken into the barn with the other orphans. But because he never got his colostrum---the special elixir only his mother could have given him--- he did not nurse vigorously like the other orphans did on the bottles of goats milk the farm staff would offer. His condition was deteriorating, and the farmer was ready to put him down. But one of the staff took the sickly fawn instead, and sold him to a pharmaceutical laboratory nearby. The lab was given a new drug to test---Posicognizayn--which is meant to repair damaged cells. The half-dead fawn was the perfect test subject. He was injected with the drug, the drug tested positive, the fawn's survival was a success and the tests began.

For the next year of his life, he would be hooked up to machines, be forced to complete puzzles and mazes, have blood tests taken and otherwise be subject to the life of a lab-rat. When he was 4 months old, a monkey in the cage next to him bite him through the wire, and the attack resulted in a terribly scratched cornea on his left eye. The scratch became infected, and the buck almost lost his life again. In an attempt to save the months and thousands of dollars of research the deer represented, the doctors performed a risky eye-transplant surgery. The donated eye came from the remains of a silver-mutant deer that was found in the forest, and was originally from the farm the young buck had come from. Therefore, there was less of a risk of his body rejecting the new eye. The surgery was a complete success...for the doctors. But for the young buck, that's when the nightmares began. He began having hallucinations and visions, and soon he would learn that these ghostly memories belonged to the previous owner of the eerie yellow eye.
 
Around the same time, the company who created the drug made a modified version of it---one that not only repaired damaged cells, but increased the production of cognitive cells. This special medicine was meant to increase intelligence faster and more efficiently than its predecessor. The buck was injected with the new drug, and the doctors sat and watched eagerly as the buck began trembling, drooling, moaning and exhibiting other painful effects of the new drug. After hours of torture---bleeding from the eyes, debilitating abdominal cramps, seizures and complete loss of coordination---the buck slipped into a coma. Knowing he'd likely be dead by morning, the doctors left the lab, discussing the interesting effects the new drug possessed.

The next morning, the doctors were stunned to find the buck in the test room, staring intently at the 2-way mirror. Blood, excrement and gashes in the walls were evidence of the deer's night of torture. But now, he stood quietly, staring at the faces of the doctors through the glass. Though they did not know it, he was equal--nay, greater than these men in intelligence. He was aware of himself, his surroundings and what these humans had been doing to him for so long. He was no longer a dumb animal---he had become a highly-intelligent being. And he didn't want to be in the lab anymore. With a snort, he lunged at the mirror and exploded through the bullet-proof glass at the scientists. They were all impaled on his thick, strong antlers. He tossed them aside, grabbed a code-key from the head-scientist, and used it to walk right out of that laboratory. Before he left the vicinity, he slashed open the gas tank of one of the cars in the parking lot with his antlers, and with his hooves, he struck a rock until he made a spark. The spark hit the trail of gasoline, which was dripping towards the lab building. With a crooked smile, he watched as the building became engulfed in flames. Every living creature in the building, along with the dead scientists, burned to a crisp. Knowing he would not be free if it had not been for the miracle drug, the buck named himself Zayn.
 

"Untamed Path" Relation (subject to change in order for him to fit properly into the storyline) :

His yellow eye throbbed and for a reason he did not understand at the time, the eye was telling him where to go. It was telling him what to do. It wanted him to finish something another started. But after Zayn reached his destination, he had his own plans and his own schedule. Though the eye often talks to him, he ignores it, feeling he's too intelligent to take orders from the ghost eye. After arriving in Mena's forest and being around other deer for the first time in his life, he found himself irresistibly addicted to the attention and awe he incurred. Charisma is a leadership quality that captures the popular audience and inspires allegiance and devotion--and that's what Zayn had; charisma. He had a lot of it. And though he was far more intelligent than any of the other creatures in the forest, he wasn't arrogant about it, and consistently exhibits a humble attitude. This trait makes him popular with the does. One doe in particular; a doe named Soleil; caught his eye. He was impressed not only by her beauty, but by her eagerness to learn anything and everything he could offer to teach her. Her brother, Mercutio was easily won over by Zayn's unique head crown of 3 large, hard-as-steel antlers. However, when Zayn meets Corvin, his yellow eye throws off a red-flag warning and offers him a vision. Seeing what Corvin can do and has done many times, Zayn remains polite but withdrawn from the dark young buck, who is cold and standoffish of the new comer. But Zayn remains persistant, and eventually Corvin actually comes to like him. At one point, Corvin even considers him a friend (after Zayn stands up for him). But when Zayn double-crosses Corvin's trust by getting too friendly with Soliel, Corvin's hate and lust for revenge becomes powerful, and Zayn is his target. But when he underestimates Zayn's intelligence, Corvin finds himself at risk of losing his true love and being driven out of the forest forever.....Can Corvin control his desire to murder Zayn, or will he take his rage out on Soleil?
