Much like most movies, the shelf life is the second life. XD

Yeah, im wondering how it was when Balto was shown in theaters, you know', the feeling when you first see the movies. But I guess the most important thing it's that you saw it and it doesn't matter where.

To my recollection, it wasn't advertised very well on television back then. And since the internet was still relatively young, I don't know whether or not anyone was doing online trailers at the time. Hell, YouTube didn't even exist until ten years after the movie came out in theaters. And I don't think there were any real video sharing sites back then either. AOL was the major player at the time, and I don't think there was much being said there either.

I didn't find out about the movie until several years after its release...by stumbling across it on the shelves of a Blockbuster video rental store...and that might have been around 2003 or 2004 at the earliest. Of course, it was that movie (the first one) that got me into the actual true story, let alone into being a fan. But if I hadn't stumbled across it by chance in that video store, I might never have heard of it unless I found it in a retail setting sometime after that.

The only other promotion (if you want to call it that) Balto received was when Universal released a Leave it to Beaver movie in 1997. I can't find the clip anywhere online, but there's a short part where Balto is playing in the background, and Beaver was looking at the film's cover.

Here's the only thing I can find: http://www.subzin.com/quotes/M136936314 ... htheria%3F

Besides that, I really don't think the film received a lot of promotion.

Same here, found a VHS around 2003 in an old rental store :D I don't think it was even released in the cinema in my country, let alone advertised.. (but then again, I was 4 years old when it came out so I wouldn't remember much). I probably wouldn't know it existed (ot at least not untill much later on the internet perhaps) if I didn't find it in the rental store either.

I'd never heard of it before I saw it in school on VHS in 4th grade. If I didn't see in school then. I wouldn't of found or heard of my all time fav film.

I can't believe I was so young when it came out. I only heard about when I about 7-8 so about a year or two after it was released! And I saw it when I was 15 and joined AS!

I wonder what it'd look like if it were made nowadays. I think the graphics could have looked better, but it would definitetly be a 3D movie and the humour would be different now.

i kept the movie close to my heart for YERS. it helped by deal with the hard times in my life. the abuse from my farther towards my mother (practicaly mimiced jenna and steele's situatuation about if balto survived). even my farthers name is close STEILGH, the first time i saw it was 2002 i think or 3. i was at my local vhs store looking for THUNDERBIRDS. as it had just released that years. sadly it was on rental with someone else. and then i saw balto's case. i had a long loomk and in my mind thought it would be good,
i went home and watched it and went back and extended my rental about 6 more times. i was hooked since XD (sorry for my grammar)

I have small memories of seeing it in theaters but I remember watching it on VHS several times.

It was one of the reasons why I wanted a husky then later on I learned how much work they were and changed my mind.

I did have a real wolfdog the year the movie came out in theaters, he acted more like a dog than anything else but looked like wolf.

For a long time I thought Balto was a Don Bluth film because of the animation then I later learned it wasn't.

I did see the statue in New York once, but it was from the window of a car, I never got to get out and take pictures but I'd like to one day.

It's kind of hard to believe that Balto is really that old, because I didn't see it until years later. It was new to me then; I wish I had seen it in theaters.

Yeah me either. I first saw it back 2009 when I was a 4th grader and ever since it became my all time favorite film and still is to this day.
