We all know of some pretty good Lion King fan fictions and comics, correct? Well after a while, you want to look for something new. Something nobody has really looked into about the Lion King. And that is exactly what I found on the popular art website, DeviantART.
The comic artist whose username is Savu0211, has written a very,
very unique story about the Lion King. The comic is beautifully written, and amazingly drawn, by someone who's English is not their first language, and unfortunately, the comic lacks in fans.
The comic/story is split into four parts, Taka's Story Part 1, Taka's Story Part 2, Scar's Reign, and The Heirs - all of which feature the infamous villains, Scar and Zira and their families. As you read through each part, you find some questions answered such as "What happened to Kopa?" and "Where did Kovu come from?". Of course the comic isn't created by Disney, so the answers aren't official but they make enough sense to where they could become official if approved by Disney.
What is the comic really about? Read below to find out!
*Spoiler Alert* Reading beyond this point may or may not contain spoilers, so if you do not want the comic to be spoiled for you, don't continue to read and scroll directly to the bottom of this post for a link to the comic ~Taka's Story Part 1 begins with Taka, Scar's birth name, a few days after birth. Mufasa is showing his childhood friends, Sarabi and Sarafina, his new baby brother. After Uru, Mufasa's mother, shoos the children away, the comic dialogue explains how she had a premature birth and that is why Taka/Scar lacks in physical strength and size. As the comic progresses, Taka gets older and as a cub, feels very unimportant because Mufasa is the future king and Taka thinks because of that he gets special treatment. Getting into trouble frequently, Taka is known to be a disappointment in his father, Ahadi's, eyes. Taka finds himself straying away to the elephant graveyard where he meets young pups Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed and their mother, Freya. Befriending the hyenas, Taka learns that with them by his side, he doesn't need to be strong to win his battles.
When Taka is almost killed by Sarafina's fictional brother, Riku, who gave him his famous scar, the hyenas come to his rescue and eagerly kill the young lion. Take simply watches as they kill him and then Freya comforts the young cub, licking the blood from his scar. Srafina's mother, Sina, finds Taka, the hyenas, and her sons body. This is when she develops a hatred for the young cub and Uru has to chase away the hyenas. Sina is warned by Ahadi to never lay a paw on his son or she will be banished, and Sarafina adopts a hatred for Taka as well. Taka grows a bit more, growing several tufts of fur on his head and elbows. He never goes out with the pride, hunting, and usually spends his time laying around in the cave near pride rock. He goes out hunting by himself and meets a young cub named Zira. Taking the cub to his cave, he instructs the cub to hide when other lions come near. Sarafina finds out about Zira and tells her mother, who find the hiding cub and gives her the wound on her ear. Taka tries to stop her and Sina is banished by Ahadi. Sarafina accompanies her mother and leaves, but not without Uru telling her that she can return whenever she wishes, as long as her mother doesn't come with her.
To keep Ahadi from sending Zira away, Taka tells the pride that she is to become his mate when she is of age, and the young cub gets to stay with the pride. Zira is told by Taka that he will no longer go by the name his mother gave him at birth, but by Scar. The young lioness cub obeys him and therefor calls him Scar. The two come across a pride of lionesses and Scar is knocked out from pulling the leader of the pride over a cliff, killing her. Scar wakes up two days later, angry at Zira but the story ends with them looking up at the stars.
Taka's Story Part 2 begins with Ahadi looking over the pridelands, watching both of his sons and their future mates. Zira finds Scar watching Sarabi, who loved him as a cub but is not betrothed to Mufasa. Zira is jealous and Scar makes up for it by taking Zira to stalk up to his brother and Sarabi, interrupting their conversation. Sarafina returns to the pridelands with her good friend, Zazu, who promises to vouch for her to Ahadi, telling him that the father of Sarafina's cub will not disrupt the bloodline of the pride. Sarafina is accepted back into the pride and Scar is angry with his parents for breaking their own rules, when he wasn't allowed to. Scar later finds out that Zira is expecting his cubs and in attempt to stop Mufasa from speaking bad about her mate, Zira jumps onto his back and the future king hits her in her swollen stomach. Scar, very angry with his brother, soon finds out that Zira gave birth to two cubs, one being stillborn. Blaming his brother for his son's death, Scar pledges to get revenge. Zira finds Ahadi at the gorge and when her daughter is pushed off the edge of the gorge but saved by Scar, they send the hyenas onto the former king, who resigned and gave the crown to Mufasa. The pride finds Ahadi's body and Uru is disturbed after seeing Scar so happy after his father's death.
Azra, Scar and Ziras only alive cub, is shocked from seeing the hyenas kill her grandfather. Her mother comforts her and the little cub finds newborn Nala in the pridelands. Pressing the young cub to come play with her. Sarafina scolds Azra and she and Zira fight. Zira is angry with Scar for letting Azra play alone in the pridelands and sends him to sleep outside with the hyenas. The story ends with cub Simba being born and Scar talking to Zira about them becoming the king and queen of the pridelands.
Scar's Reign begins with adult Azra and Vitani telling Kiara and Kovu's two sons the story about the "dark lion", Scar. The comic flashes back to when Azra was still a cub and Uru is telling her how much she looks like her father. Zira is yelling at Sarabi for not bringing her a gazelle to eat and Uru yells at her to stop. Zira tells the former queen that now
she is the queen and has the right to do whatever she wishes. Zira gives birth to three female cubs and Scar is disappointed for not having a male heir. He tells Zira that he will not let one of his daughters become queen because they would be too kind and gentle and not become good successors. Sarafina finds her old mate, Upendo, Nala's father. Scar does not know about their meetings until one of his three daughters mentions that Sarafina has gotten fat lately. Sarafina gives birth to Mheetu, a male cub, and Scar promises not to hurt the young cub if Nala will become betrothed to his next son and be the queen of the pridelands. Sarabi, Sarafina, and Uru are shocked by Scar's orders but obey them, doing anything to protect Mheetu. Zira tricks Uru and Nala into leaving the pridelands where they get attacked by Hyenas. Nala escapes and the hyenas kill Uru, much to Scars dismay. Sarafina, Upendo, and Mheetu are sent away from the pridelands, told never to return.
Zira has a weak male cub named Nuka, and Scar refuses to have him as a successor as well. Nuka becomes attached to Azra and follows her everywhere, because his parents neglect his presence. Azra meets a male lion who tricks her into thinking he wants to become her mate, and she meets him secretly behind her fathers back. Her three younger sisters find out and tell Scar, who yells at Azra and refuses to let her see the lion ever again. Azra, Nuka, and their three sisters encounter the lion's pride and Scar and Zira fight their leader. After he is killed by Azra, Scar takes the leader's newborn cub, Kovu as his new heir. The leaderless pride joins Scar's pride and Kovu's mother with them. Kovu's mother tries to get Scar to let her become queen instead of Zira and he ignores her. Nuka and Scar fight because Scar loves Kovu more than his real son, causing Nuka to run out into the pridelands, wishing his father dead. Zira and the new pride lead a hunting party that night, where they kill Shentani, Kovu's biological mother. When they return to priderock, they find it in flames and Nuka crying over his father's body.
Scar's family is banished by Simba, the new king, and Zira neglects all of her children. Zira then notices Kovu's green eyes and vows to teach him to be a great king. The flashback fades and Azra finishes her story. As Vitani takes the cubs back to their parents, Azra is encountered by her mother, who is alive, her three sisters, and her son, Kosa. Azra swears to turn Vitani against Simba and the story ends with Zira smiling as her daughter leaves.
The Heirs begins with Azra speaking to Vitani about her loyalty to Simba or to her mother. Vitani turns out to be loyal to their mother and Simba interrupts their conversation, angry with Azra for telling the cubs the story about their great-grandfather, Scar. Azra defends herself and Simba leaves. Later that night, Vitani tells Azra about her life in the pride when the lionesses didn't trust her because of her parents. She also speaks about when Azra came to join the pride and Kovu and Simba welcomed her with open arms. The scene switches to one of Kovu's sons who goes to speak with Nala about Scar, and she tells him about the time that she first met Simba's uncle. They are interrupted when a white lion comes to pride rock, telling Kovu and Simba about some lions that steal the children of royalty. The white lion, Baridi, Vitani, Azra, and Sarabi are in charge of protecting the cubs while the rest of the pride scouts through the pridelands. Baridi and Azra kill Sarabi and Vitani tells the cubs that they are going on a trip, and their parents will find them later. Zira, Kosa, Azra, Vitani, and Baridi - in the elephant graveyard - tell Simba and Kovu that if they try to come after their cubs, the two princes will be killed.
The bad lions run off and the pridelanders continue to search for their missing cubs. Kiara has a vision later that night where the ghost of Sarabi leads her to the cubs. Baridi takes the cubs to a great valley surrounded by snowy mountains where several cubs without parents live. Nuru, one of Kovu's cubs, finds out that Baridi plans to use the cubs to take control of every pride in Africa, and tries to convince his brother to leave with him, who refuses. Kiara rescues Nuru and his friend, Imara. They are followed by Azra and Kosa who try to kill the cubs but Kiara tries to fight them off. Kopa, Kiara's long lost brother and best friend of Kosa, fights off Kosa and they run off. Giza, the daughter of Kosa and Baridi, who is still a cub, accidentally tells Kesar, Nuru's brother, of Baridi's plans and leaves. Giza then goes to tell her mother, where she finds out that Baridi doesn't care about her - but for Kesar and Nuru. She decides to try and impress her mother by attacking Simba's pride by herself, but ends up getting rescued by Nala. She then leads the pride to Kiara, Kopa, and the other parents of the cubs. This part of the story isn't complete, but I will update this post with more information.
