Hey there all! If you don't know me by now, I'm Juuchan17 and I'm an avid fanfiction writer of some pretty good fics on the site! I apologize for the long delay in fics lately, but there is good news - I am writing some new stories until I get my old fics off of my old computer!
Speaking of new fics, I do have a romantic one-shot story in the works, and I hope you enjoy just a little snippet of it for now! Unfortunately, it is currently an untitled piece, but I hope that will change in the upcoming weeks as I complete it! Also, there will be two versions of this story [the PG rated one will be on the site]!
Summary [not the final version, but meh]: In a twist in the first sequel to "Balto", Aleu begins a journey towards a longing for a certain someone... one that many see as a strange choice. How will her destiny - as well as the pack's fate - be affected by this love?
The air was chilled - cold and bare - as a grayish-brown male mutt ran towards the water, charging forward as his eyes of gold and red, inherited from his lupine mother, burned with passion as his large, clawed paws made their initial splash into the ocean waves. Honestly, he didn't know why he was actually doing this. All he had wanted to do was just take his yearling daughter home and settle back down in the town with the life he's always known.
Behind the male was several others, wolves of varied earthy shades that were followers, not leaders. It was their duty - they were born to follow their alpha, the one wolf they called their leader. They were loyal and, with the Great Aniu's blessing, they would give their all to only the one chosen to lead; it would be considered treason to support any other wolf besides the alpha.
Heading the end of the group was an elderly male wolf, one with gray marks across his coat that showed a sign of his age. His stride was slow, even before his paws met with the cold, icy surface of the natural bridge against the water, and it wasn't long before he appeared weakened in its presence, nearly collapsing by the strain to his aged body.
As if by natural reaction, a young female - one that appeared scruffy and lupine like the others, but had friendly eyes of blue - rushed to his side, catching him as if to offer herself as a crutch. She was not as strong as many of the other wolves in the pack, but she wasn't a part of them at all; her father just happened to be the one in the lead - the supposed "leader" that Aniu had led to their territory not more than twelve hours prior - and despite him wanting to spend this same time to return whence he and his daughter had came.
As the elder finally made it to one of the longer floes with the younger's assistance, it began to crack... and soon split the ice in two, separating the two wolves. Even the others that were far in front stopped in their tracks, sensing that one of their own was not with them. They called out to him, hoping that their cries would reach the Great Aniu's ears, but only one actually risked their life to try and keep him with the group.
Only one leapt into the chilled waves to join his side.
Only the young female wanted nothing more but to keep them all together, even if it meant leaving her father's watchful eye in the process. Though she lacked strength, she had the heart and courage to do what no other in the clan could or even bothered to try.
She wanted to save him.

Even in the darkness of dreams, the image of one that was left behind on the other side of the water couldn't get out of the yearling quarter-wolf's mind.
That tan fur that had survived years of leadership and shone wisdom in her sights...
Those gray eyes that, though were aged, seemed so kind and friendly...
An ear that could always listen to anyone's problems...
Perhaps a comforting embrace in the midst of a winter's frosty chill...?
Aleu's eyes snapped open suddenly just at that final thought, a gasp escaping as she sat up from her den's ground. She breathed fast for a moment, soon calming to a simple pant as her thoughts began to finally fade away, returning her to reality.
W-what.... what was that thought? She shook her face from side to side, feeling some heat against her cheeks that needed to go away quickly before showing herself in public. It was... it was just a dream after all...
Honestly, Aleu had never felt feelings like this before. Thanks to her father's protection, she was usually kept away from others, save for her parents, her 'babysitter' and personal chew toy Boris, and playmate polar bear cubs, Muk and Luk. It was his fear of her differences that had first gotten her to be nearly killed by a hunter and eventually led her to run into the wilderness in the first place... and it soon led her to face her destiny as the new leader of the clan, his successor.
But... why was I thinking of him anyway? He's not even here...! She paused, repeating those words softer, slower. He's... not even... here... Her eyelids fell halfway as she stepped closer to her den's entrance, gazing at the small clan of wolves that remained.
They all followed him for years, she thought, observing their rituals and their preparation for the morning hunt. Compared to me, he was... a wise leader, much more in tune with the world than I am... Her eyelids fell halfway, as did her muzzle. I will never be like him, no matter how hard I try...
She wouldn't deny that she had enjoyed being in his presence, but... how long had it been since they'd last shared a glance of each other?
How long... had it really been?
...Too long...
I want... I want to see him again... She closed her eyes, her heart filling with longing. I know I have to lead here, but I really, really want to... be with him again... just for a little while if I can.
