The second movie of Brother Bear introduced as new characters two female moose named Anda and Kata. Honestly, the idea of companions for Rutt and Tuke was not that bad, considering the second movie was in a kind of...mating season, looking how the other bears of the Salmon Run and Kenai too found a mate. But there's something I haven't liked at all about these two cows and it's mostly regarding their looks.

Don't Anda and Kata look like Rutt and Tuke genderbent? Same colour palette, same siblings relationship, with Kata being the "dominant" one like Rutt is with Tuke.
I understand there's not much a variation of coat colors in mooses but a little originality would have been nice, maybe they could have kept the same design but changed the colors, instead of making the two a clone of Rutt and Tuke without antlers.
I am a fan of good female characters. I understand these two cows only had to be a love interest and not the main characters but I thought that, maybe, giving them a more significative role wouldn't have wasted the movie. They had quite some screen time but, for example, in the end where almost all our characters were at Nita's village to try to save Kenai and Koda, it would have been nice if the two, after seeing Rutt and Tuke jumping on the hunters who had just caught Koda, did something similar instead of cheering for their boyfriends. Look at Nita, she tried to do something but was stopped by the hunters but, when she got the chance, she got on her feet and shoved Atka away, yelling at him before running to see if Kenai was fine.

I do accept their role, that was bigger than what I expected but the only thing that bugs me is their coat colors. I keep thinking that Rutt and Tuke got as girlfriends themselves genderbent.

What's your opinion about these two girls? Did you like them? Or there was something about them that you didn't like? You can share your opinion as I did with mine c:

Very much agreed. I actually didn't mind the moosettes so much (...even though 'must not die alone' sequels ANNOY ME...), but there was something about them that didn't feel very memorable. I didn't think at the time that it might be the 'gender swap' thing, but I you may have something here, Saske. Would it REALLY have been so hard to make them unique designs? lol guess so

they were going to be pink and purple but they ran out of paint   ... I think it would've been better if Kata went with Tuke and Anda with Rutt.. the pairing was too easy..

I agree. I didn't like the idea of the mosetes. Not only because BB2 was one of the worst seuqels ever with "everybody needs a mate" idea, but also that Anda and Kata were just female clones of Rutt and Tuke and in the end paired with thier male versions. Nothing creative here. It was completely unoriginal.

My sister asked to borrow my copy of BB2 recently to watch it, and I happened to be in the room so I kinda rewatched it too. It made me remember something else about these two characters that really bothers me.

Rutt and Tuke weren't that horrible in the first movie. Heck, I even like them. Sure comedy relief may be seen as THE DEVIL to many critics, but come on the first movie NEEDED comedy relief at times. With so many characters dying (though granted we never really got to know Koda's mom), the lighthearted duo weighed the dark moments of the film (to some maybe it was too much, but hey, to each their own).

The SECOND movie however... uuuggghhhhh. ALL likeability was just drained from them. Mostly starting from when Anda and Kata come in. I found myself appalled with how they didn't fall for either character, but rather it went something like; 'oh look at the hot chicks they must both be mine'. The mosettes would've been FINE if they had shown PROPER character development. We see the brothers make up, but we don't see why they paired off with their chosen mosette. Why bother taking the time to create new characters (even if 'poorly' created), just to treat them like a prize? It makes the brothers shallow sacks of venison and says NOTHING for Anda and Kata. If they can be swayed so easily by 'hoof-man', who's to say how long those relationships will last.

Oh but I s'pose that'd take away all the attention from the MAIN romance of the movie. Pffff. Personally I find Nita annoying but that'd be off topic. Just. Didn't BB2 have enough romance? Having Rutt and Tuke also looking for "love" made the movie overly sappy and stupid.

But that's my opinion on this Disney "no one dies alone" sequel.

In my opinion... ''Brother Bear 2'' was a terrible sequel. It wasn't compatible with the original story in any way. (Denahi's voice actor passed.. Why did the movie proceed without him? Nita was never mentioned in the first movie. Where did this neighbouring tribe come from?)
Now that you mention Anda and Kata's similarities to Rutt and Tuke. I can see additional defects in the sequel. However, I find the moose sister's personalities refreshing against a film with duller characters.
The moose brothers are still great too.
