Kiona was my great aunt's name. And I personally create the character before naming them. Because sometimes a name will just suit them, rather than someone building a character based on a name they heard. Some people do it the other way, but I find making the character before naming much more effective.

As for naming, I base it on many things: (in this case for dogs) what kind of owner do they have? Would they name it based off their color, their personality, or someone they previously knew? What country are they from? Do they live in a society like My Little Pony where everything is named based on the symbols on their butts? Do their parents hate them enough to give them a retarculous name? Those kinds of questions can all come into play xDDD



I used to when I first started out, but I've no need for them anymore.



Partially it is because she's a mix-breed. Wolf/dog hybrids have been known to be more vicious than either a dog or a wolf simply because of the mixed genes (among other things). If you've noticed in my fics, her siblings have shown signs of this instability, but the majority of them were raised by humans, so there's a domestic feel for them.

For example, in A Miracle, Quinn/Saba becomes stressed about Iron and snaps at Stunner, but doesn't get to the point of violence.

In Buried Secrets, Kodi witnesses that Kano and Hank killed Kirby and he rages. Not to the point of killing them, but to the point of nearly-losing control.

In any Dakota fics, he's always been a bit of a fighter, so he can express any of his "wolfy rage" since he lives in a more hostile environment.

Dingo was the only one who was far too passive to show signs of it. I'm not sure if he ever did, and I think it'd make for an interesting story.

And Aleu's shown her rage, but moreso than not, she loses her fights, simply by being young and inexperienced. I mean she's lived with her Dad most of her life, didn't put up a fight to become alpha, and after that she's struggled just to keep her pack from diminishing.

Kiona lived in the wild, but aside from other chemical imbalances, she's lost control only if her survival depended on it. Like when she and Fox were fighting or when she nearly starved or when the bear attacked Achak. Part of her malfunctions were included in her past experienced. She was pretty scarred in Here With You when she talked about how a group of Anti-Balto dogs attacked her when she was a pup and Aleu ran away without getting help. And also when Aleu violated her. Anything else was either from too many hits in the head or her mixed blood.

Stunner: Welllllllllll, I'd be lying if I said it hadn't crossed our mind. But we don't think we will, simply because we've overheard the humans talking about a dog population issue in Nome. But if nature calls, it calls.

They're awesome cuz *I* made them xDDD Or at least I think they're awesome cuz I don't try to copy people and I make sure they come from my brain.



Sometimes a character will just come to me and their history etc. will come right after. But sometimes it works the other way too. It varies for most of them. But almost every time I make the character before naming them.



Well, less is more, as they say. So simple is good. However to keep a character from being bland, you should make sure they have interesting quirks or traits about themselves. Keeping a character typical and predictable is boring, so I often borrow traits from myself or people I know.

Iron: Hmmm... between Probably Gogo (Saimar). He turned out to be a very good guy, despite his like for a certain stray... But alongside him, Hemmy (Copper) proved to be promising too.
