Balto Books, Up For Grabs!
There are quite a few books on Balto and the Serum Run, but which are really too get your nose in? Which can you actually trust? Some books are un-trustworthy though so you must be careful, these books will not be mentioned in this topic so the good ones can shine through! If you find any other books you can post a link here and reviews of any Balto books you have read are more than welcome. So, happy hunting!

Links & Resources
Here are some links where you can find more books on Balto, the Serum Run and also topics like sledding and sled dogs:

Here is a old topic within the board about a book called, "The Adventures of Balto". Read up about it in the link if you wish to know more: viewtopic.php?t=8691

The Iditarod
Here is an Iditarod site packed with sledding books of all kinds! There are some on the Serum Run (unfortunatly not many, but the ones that are listed seem to be the better Balto books so I would trust the judgement of this site) and many other different topics realting to the Iditarod and sledding. Its a good looking site full of outgoing links to more books and long lists of what you can buy:
http://www.workingdogweb.com/Iditarod.htm
Many, many books in the above link, for anyone who is interested in the Iditarod and sledding, check it out!

Alaska Bookstore - http://www.alaskanha.org/_alaska-books-maps.cfm
This is a great site full of books on Alaska! You can find Balto books and other interesting Serum Run/History topics if you dig deep! Here is a book on many heroic dogs of Alaska (which include Balto and Togo!) which sounds very interesting if you want to take a look: http://www.alaskanha.org/_details.cfm?ProdID=687
Keep on looking here and I am sure you can find some more! ;D

These all the good links for now, any more found then please post!

Here are some books I will be reviewing soon!
- The Crueliest Miles
- The Great Serum Run: Blazing the Iditarod Trail

.:Updates:.

13/6/07 ~ I have finally updated this old page because I liked the topic and wanted to search deeper and make this a more bolder page so people can really search, find and review these books. I have added a pole which will change regularly and I will hopefully be updated this more often. Thats it for now, but check again soon!

Check back here again for anymore updates on new Balto books!

Its a good book. I read it in 2005 and I have forgotten most of it. I think it has a map inside of it.

These are good books. I have read Balto and the great race( that I own.)
Also the bravests dog ever. But I find these books more geard for yunger children.

Balto and the Great Race
The book was written by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel
There are illustrations all the way through, and a map of Alaska with the Iditarod Trail Route at the start of the book. It is a kids book (9-12), and seems to have good reviews so far. Another book close to this is The Bravest Dog in the World: The True Story of Balto, produced by the same compony and very similar, but written by a different authur. I have heard that it is only the story of Balto, and his side of the story. Not that it is forgetting about Togo, just telling Balto's side of the story. Hopefully i will find some other books on Togo himself.

To buy this book (or even The Bravest Dog in the World, together for a good price!) at a good price, get it from Amazon at this link:

Balto and the great race is a vary good book, but doesent give as much detail as, The adventures of balto. I havent read that book, I herd it was a awsome book.

Yes, I have noticed this. But I got a wonderful new book for Christmas called 'The Cruelest Miles'. It is hard back, very thick and aimed at adults. For me it may be hard, but I know it will be a good read. It is not only about Balto but the rest of the team. It is based on ALL the dogs in the Serum Run. You can buy it from Amazon or from the Cleveland Museum shop where Balto is stuffed. I highly recommend it, the book is very impressive.

You should  I did say it is very adult as in it is a thick book and could be a difficult read, but I'm sure anyone interested in the true story as I am will like it. I suggest you order from Amazon, its the easiest place to find it.

Though I don't have a link for a place with information about it because my mom got it at a flea market, I think somebody (other than me) should read Race Against Death. The writing style is a bit poor and it is told like a story, but the book is informative. I read an online version of The Adventures of Balto and many facts about the Serum Run are similiar, so I believe it is a trustworthy book.

"The Cruelest Miles" actually covers all four topics from the poll very well.
