I finished reading this book a day ago! I don't know how Disney could've made it so different! The book is like, rated PG-13, and the movie is G! The book is AWESOME! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves nature/animals! Warning for the book: It get quite violent at times. And just so you know, Faline has a brother named Gobo. You'll also meet Ronno (from Bambi 2), Karus, Marena, and Old Nettla. It's a must read!

I heard it was a novel watching the special features in the DVD. I'm glad to hear it's so good! I'll see if I can find it at the library! Who's the author?

Felix Salten wrote the original Bambi. He also wrote a sequel to it called "Bambi's Children." Both were highly enjoyable!

I REALLY want to read Bambi's Children. Someone was scanning and posting it on a Bambi forum, but the second page was always cut off, so I couldn't read it properly.

Ooh, I read the novel back in 8th grade... in fact my copy is stolen from my old english teacher's classroom... It was very good! I still go back and reread bits of it sometimes. Highly recommended, I love it as much as the movie <3 (I'd say 'more than' but... Disney's Bambi is just too much of a classic & artistically -gorgeous- to ever go down a notch just for reading the original book ) I wanna read Bambi's Children but I can't find it anywhere, except maybe on Amazon or eBay... and I kinda can't order stuff online D: *pout*

I finished reading "Bambi" only a week or two ago, and I definitely noticed a lot of differences between the novel and the Disney classic.
(For example, Ronno is much older than Bambi in the novel, obviously making their scenes in "Bambi II" impossible. I think Ronno was already grown, not a few months older than Bambi was (in the sequel).)
And yes, I like this version because of the fact that they didn't hide the noticeable "kissing-cousins" thing with Bambi and Faline, as well as Gobo, Faline's weaker brother . . . *sniff* His tale was heart-breaking, but I can see why both things were cut from the animated film (Now, really . . . we don't want to connect Disney with incest now, do we?)
I'm actually reading "Bambi's Children" right now, and Geno and Gurri (Bambi's fawns - Geno is a boy, Gurri's a girl) seem more rambunctious than Bambi was as a child in the original. I'll offer my opinion of the sequel when I finish it, okay? (BTW, I found both books in the library - I could only find one copy of "Bambi's Children" in my library system, but I hope it'll be worth it!)

Just finished reading "Bambi's Children" yesterday . . . and it was good. Dramatic like the first, but more Bambi action. And his children were interesting to watch develop. The only problem was that

the ending was rather sudden and incomplete in my opinion. Having it end with Faline telling her children to go was rather rash, but perhaps it just meant to happen. Of course, all parents have to eventually let their children go their separate ways and move on, but the actual ending feels . . . like it needs more. But I guess the fact that she leaves to follow Bambi means that maybe she'd have more children, now that she's experienced raising her own, but what about Geno and Gurri? We haven't a clue what paths they'll choose to follow, who they'll select as a mate or whether they'll have their own children or not. But still, it was an interesting read. I suggest that if you liked the first, read this sequel. I think it would have made quite a film if animated, but I doubt it would be as intriguing as Disney's classic film. But I'd like to see Geno and Gurri animated and walking about in their own movie one day (They were in the classic though - only at the end, but their names weren't mentioned.). - Juuchan17

I've read this book many times the first being when I was 12. I hated it then and didn't really finish it. Then I picked it up again and started to read it and found that I loved it. There are many difference when comparing the book to the disney movie.
