(Just took my review some dA, edited it, and posted it so you guys could hear how good or bad it was. Discussions on this forum MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS.)

*sigh* It's almost like I've fallen for Disney all over again.

I loved this movie!!

But wait, lets start again. Two years ago, I HATED the thought of this movie. To me, they were going to butcher it beyond recognition.

OH HO HOOOOO did they ever prove me wrong.

I mean, when I saw newer previews of this movie, I grew REALLY. REALLY. Excited.

And for good reason.

Where can I begin? Starts off, really friggen cute of course (TIANA HAS DIMPLES. EEEEEEE!) Little Tiana won my heart from the beginning! Everything she did, I just wanted to scoop her up and hug her xD And for once, I think she's one of the only Disney main characters who had TWO parents at the same time O_o Everyone else in Disney history pretty much has at least one dead from the start xD

This movie had alot of stuff to talk about, ugh. I want to tell you all of it, but JHDGJKDFG

Okay anyway, the animation? WONDERFUL. Its so clear! And the body language was so great! The characters moved so quick and flowed so nice and natural! And oh god, the one scene where Tiana sings ;3; And the style changes? ITS SO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

The backgrounds were beautiful. You can tell alot of the effort of this movie was the backgrounds. Not only were they pretty, but they were so colorful. Not obnoxious. A couple scenes were actually pretty eerie.

The SONGS??? There were so many!! But not A ONE was bad. NOT A ONE. All of them were so catchy and fun! And only added to the plot, WHICH IS WHAT I LIKE ABOUT SONGS IN MOVIES. And the background music certainly was not bad either 83 Unfortunately, I was paying more attention to the animation myself xD

HUMORRRRRR. Yes, PLENTY of that, hahaha. And good news! There's plenty for the adults to laugh at! They didn't keep it as stupid kiddy humor, tho there was plenty of slap-stick comedy, there was alot of witty stuff for the adults to enjoy. But it wasn't raunchy in the slightest. It was good pacing. I had myself laughing at alot of it for a couple minutes after it was done, haha.

The voice acting was /really/ well done. They had a great cast, what more can I say??

The characters were <3333333 I loved all of the characters. Tiana was sooo likable. They didn't like force you to like her either. She had her quirks, definitely, but its something you can really respect her for. Naveen was wonderful too. You get a prince who has a real soft spot for jazz music. Its more than charming, I'd say xD (For the record, I had myself debating whether or not I liked Prince Phillip or Prince Naveen. I decided Naveen won for the accent, haha, otherwise he was full of character)

Even the minor characters were likable. As a matter of fact, my favorite character was a minor character xD And that would be Charlotte. NO, ITS NOT CUZ SHE'S WHITE -_- But how she moved, how she talked, her habits, and how she primped herself up, it was so funny and adorable. Here you have this obviously-spoiled young woman, however, she's not mean spirited in the least. And I loved what Disney did with her at the end.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE VILLAIN?? Mean, nasty, lanky voodoo man... All he wanted to do was start a little trouble >D Well. He wasn't a good guy, but xD His plans did get pretty out of hand as he went. Its not bad, don't get me wrong! It was bad for him tho, hahaha. His shadow people were actually pretty scary. I know as a kid, it'd probably have me shakin'.

This movie had a moral too. No, not a typical Disney moral (you are swayed with that "What matters is whats under the skin" clip in the trailer, yo). Its actually something fairly new, and I'm very glad they used it. If you don't want to know the moral don't read in parenthesis xD Tho I don't know why you mature people wouldn't wanna know it ((((What you want and what you need are two different things. Pretty darn good moral, wouldn't you say?))))

Some things people complained about this movie and shouldn't have?
 "There wasn't enough racism". What, do you want the white man to crack the whip if Tiana doesn't make his donuts fast enough!? There was enough mentioned about her race to keep it UNOFFENSIVE but BELIEVABLE. GAWD.
 "It was boring". Yeah? Well Mr. 32-year-old man, I'd question why you were seeing DISNEY'S PRINCESS AND THE FROG in the first place. But I don't think Disney wants a bunch of explosions and sex scenes in their film!
 "IT'S STILL SHOWING WOMEN CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT MEN!" Um. HELLO? If you saw the movie, you saw that Tiana held her own for more than half the movie, you feminist.

So I liked the lot of this movie. Does it make it flawless? Hell no.

There was some stuff I would've fixed.
 More connection with Tiana's father.
 More DR. FACILIER PLZ. He didn't have as much screentime as I'd like. Yes, he had a fair amount, but I wanted more xD He needed more backstory I thought. And less mingling with the fat white guy who's name escapes me, but he's pretty much Nathaniel from Enchanted -_-
 Less frogness plz. If you want my personal opinion >> Naveen and Tiana needed more human time. Or less time as froggies.

:!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: SPOILER ALERRRRRRRRRRRRRT :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
-Human Louie plz. >>

     OKAY BACK ON TRACK!!!

Yes. See this movie. GIVE DISNEY YOUR SUPPORT! They did a good job, people, they really did. Its no phenomenon, but its a HUUUUUUUUGE step in the RIGHT direction for 2-D.

Wow!!! I haven't read the review in detail because I don't want to be spoiled (here in France it's only released in 2 months... :x )
But that sure looks promising! Especially if you weren't interested in the first place.

Now, I sure hope there will be other reviews like that  I sure don't regret making Princess & The Frog Source anyway, it's really THE film that can change the appeal of 2D animation to the general crowd.

EDIT : BTW, I think this deserves to be in the main section, not the "fan more". I'll move it.

Lion King had 2 parents from the start, then one died...

Anyway, I LOVED it!
Facilier did end up being my fave and I rooted for him all the way! If I had to pick a faveorite good guy...ehh I dont wanna....Im sticking with Facilier!

BTW, the fat guy's name was Lawrence.

It was really good, and yes, more on Facilier's backstory would have made me a happy fanboy!

I recomend this! Heck, Im seeing it again next weekend!
I need me some Facilier!

I felt rather sympathetic for Lawrence... Then again, that's just me.

Newman was excellent! Oh boy, his music usually gets me teary du to how wonderful he is. Has anyone listened to, "Political Scince?! It makes me burst out laughing! As for the soundtrack, I can't stop listening to it!

I have to agree with this. I saw it yesterday, and I felt the same way. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it either. I was all like, "It's just a movie based on a stupid fairy tale. I wouldn't like that."

....But I left the theater with a smile on my face.

*SPOILERS*
I almost cried when Ray died, though. It shocked me.
*END OF SPOILERS*

You will love it, steet.

And so will everyone else who thinks it's boring. Because most often when you think something is dumb or boring, you end up liking it in the end! :)

Haha! The movie itself was good. I must admit I did enjoy it a lot. The animation was excellent. The story was hmm....ok, I wasn't really impressed to be honest (that's probably because princess related movies never interested me), but I really loved the new characters. Ray and Louie would be my absolute favorites. I found Charlotte kind of annoying at the beginning, but at the end I am sure she'll win everyone's heart with her funny accent and such.

I will not say it's the best Disney movie or yet....a true "classic" but sure due in time it will be. Oh and yes, it is a huge step forward for Disney.

About the music, I feel like it needed some Alan Menken....

Great review and very perceptive I must say. *applauds*

Like Silver Deni said I never had good opinions on Princess Movies to be frank, just never appeal to my taste. But generally, Princess & the Frog is a very enjoyable animation with its eccentric characters, I do love Louie, especially when he does the "Whadda ya think?" look  . Charlotte was far from my expectations of course, didn't expect her to be so caring for Tiana when she's so rumbustiously carefree and somewhat oblivious in the beginning, guess that mean you can't judge a book by its cover then, right?

The music (A HUGE reason for me to watch any films) also far exceeds my anticipation, the Jazz theme "Down in New Orleans" by Dr. John sure caught me humming afterward and so did "Dig a Little Deeper" by Jennifer Lewis. I don't know about you guys but the soundtracks are simply AMAZING, worth listening.

In addition to that, I notice the film does feature some significant symbols of the culturally unique New Orleans, to list but a few: One of those big steam boats, the sugar-powdered bread that everyone craves ("Beignet" if I'm correct...), voodoo magic, masks and masquerades, the flamboyant Mardi Gras, the accents, the people, etc.etc.

So does this mean that Disney's 2D films will have a bright future ahead? I hope so, this is one of the best Disney films I've seen in ages and I do hope it will be for everyone else.

I completely agree with film critic Roger Ebert on this: "This is what classic animation once was like!" and "No 3-D! No glasses! No extra ticket charge! No frantic frenzies of meaningless action! And...good gravy! A story! Characters! A plot!". Comparing to Avatar, the theaters seem less chaotic (Both advertisements and people stealing good seats :x ) and stuffed and over-timed (Avatar is 3-hour long of phantasmagorically epic proportions). I really don't want to wear 3D-specs every time I go to the theaters nor sit for more than 2 hours cramping myself.

Evil is a contrasting force that gives a good reason why heroics exist.

Yes, came out last month. Strange that you can't find it. You might want to try other stores like Best Buy.
