I've seen at least two characters now where the story lines have been altered to make their characters fit. While the one I just saw wasn't as nearly as bad as the one I saw yesterday, I think it's annoying that people alter the storylines around to make their characters Balto related. Of course the defense would be " it's still Balto related, so don't complain". The way I see it, this is just the opposite of being lazy with creating characters. They butcher up the Balto storylines to make their characters work. Characters that would be better off on dA as their own original character.

Under normal circumstances, I'd just consider these to be AU (alternate universe) scenarios. While I myself am not much of a fan of most AUs, especially the more extreme ones, they do happen often in many fandoms and are accepted by most in the fanfiction community.

However. Considering that this is BaltoSource we're dealing with...

I think that people just want their their precious charries to have a page and hammer out some pointless, nonsensical, or weak Balto relation to avoid the deactivation of said character. It's just another variation of "MY CHARRIE CAN BE HERE. NOW LUV EEET!!1!"
