Hi guys! I just got some great news!

As some of you may know, I'm from Cleveland, and my grandpa is on the board of trustees for the Museum and he personally told me that the Museum is going to be renovated and expanded, and that the Balto exhibit will be moved to one of the new renovated locations.

http://cmnh.org/site/AboutUs/Announcements/Campaign.aspx

This is the only article I could find about it so far. It doesn't say anything about Balto in there, though. You're going to have to trust me on that for now. But I just wanted to let you guys know.

The only bad news is that the renovations will take...a long time. Probably in 5 years, at least according to the article. (unless I'm reading that part wrong).

As for the question about whether Balto will be moved to a low-light location, I don't know. But I hope so.

I'll keep this thread updated when I find out more news. :)

I hope the museum does decide to do more with Balto's mount, as I feel that it lacks in any sort of interest. I was there back in October 2006, and the only things that were there was Balto (obviously), a couple of fake pine trees beside his glass case, a banner and the movie display. I honestly think Balto deserves better than that. I know that they have their special exhibit during the Iditarod, but to me the stuff they have out then should be there all year round (or some of it anyways). I also noticed (correct me if I'm wrong) that they seem to move Balto around in the museum. When I was there, Balto was located across from the earthquake exhibit. In more recent pictures he seems to be in various locations.

Examples:

I'm sure the museum has their reasons for moving Balto around, but I personally feel Balto should have his own and permanent location that includes pictures, information and his harness (which is what he was originally displayed with as seen here: http://www.cmnh.org/site/Img/AboutUs/Pr ... alto-1.jpg).

I agree MB. Balto was a very important part of history. He deserves his own permanent location.

I hope the exhibit isn't lessened with the move, I'm guessing the outside exhibit won't be affected because of this change most likely. Thanks for giving us all this news!
