Okay, so before I even begin, I KNOW nothing can really be done about this besides hitting the report button, but then again you must ask yourself if hitting said button actually does anything? Ah well that's another rant for another day.

Anyway,

This has been irritating the "snot out of me" me for a while now, and I wasn't sure if it constituted a rant or not but this seems to be the only way people pay attention nowadays so be it.

I am so sick of people spamming, and then someone corrects them, and then the spammer responds, and another person jumps in and the second person and the person have an entire conversation about the spammer on the topic.

Example:

A: I love Tacos
B: This has nothing to do with the topic. Stop Spamming!!!
C: Yeah A, Stop Spamming
B: Ohmygosh A is dumb
C: I know right
B: Spams some more with C

I have seen this (not exact but you get the idea), I have seen it with numerous people, and no they were not all N00bs (as people call them). I have seen people do it who have been on here for years and should know the rules by now.

Seriously, do you really need to point out the person is spamming? That is what the "report button" is for. Honestly when you "call them out on it" you are simply spamming yourself.

^ True that. And it makes people look more like a fool when they try to bring "maturity" into a topic/argument when really, if you feel such a need to be over-controlling over every situation, you're the least mature one there. Just hit the report button and be done with it. This is ridiculous.

The way I see it, there is no problem whatsoever with one person telling a noob to stop spamming a topic with off-topic material or one-to-two word postings. It IS when the noob replies with whining or hostility (which then leads to a drawn-out "who-shot-John" argument) that it becomes a bit much.

But part of the problem here, if we're going to be honest, is that there is simply not enough moderating coverage on this forum. Without resorting to finger-pointing, there NEEDS to be more coverage (and, for the most part, COMPLETELY NEW AND DIFFERENT coverage than that which this site has had for the last year or so). Most of the existing mods seem to spend most of whatever time they spend on here attending to character activations (and issues), fan fictions, fan art and images, and tons of reports. Maybe what's needed is for steet to start reverting back to mods assigned to specific duties on this site, rather than general site mods. Because that's clearly not working effectively enough.

Noobs need correction. It doesn't have to be harsh or rude correction, but I see no issue with someone telling them not to spam. At all. Especially if the post they're responding to is also reported by that person...immediately. But mods then need to respond to those reports and make some sort of posted statement to the effect that dissuades the noob (and anyone else) from further off-topic responses.

THAT would make sense. Griping about the fact that people are going to speak up about spammers is a waste of time. This is a discussion forum. People are going to discuss. Tie peoples' discussion hands too much, and no one will want to say anything. And we're caught between that and the passive-aggressive nature of discussions all over this site anymore precisely because of the white knighting and questionable moderating (especially when it favors certain friends of certain moderators...which HAS been happening on this site), and the way that the unspoken, unofficial "rules" so strangle peoples' ability to have a simple freaking discussion, even if it may not sit well with one or two people.

There are very few forums on the entire internet where peoples' ability to discuss things with relative (and reasonable) impunity is so pathetically restricted because of the hypersensitive, emotionally-stunted nature of the average member of this site. And that's plain silly.

I don't see a problem when someone is corrected once. I agree at the point that they need to be corrected because of lack of moderator's reaction for just reporting the case. But the problem is that those people keep spamming (usually with "sorry :C" stuff). Anyway, I agree with you, Lady_Jenna, that there is no need to further replying to them, nor for taking parts in other people's "corrections", especially that they're often turned into argues and complainings. One person, one report is enough.
Also, there's completely no need for people to complain over stuff that has been reported and that is clearly breaking the rules that it will be removed.
