Hello, I know I have not been on Balto Source for a quite a long time, but I'm need of help and I was hoping that fellow Balto Source members could help sign this petiton.
Hello everyone,
My friend's mother was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer just last week. Having to deal with that alone has taken a toll on my family. My mother is a private school teacher, but unfortunately does not have health insurance. When she was admitted to NorthWest Medical Center due to becoming Jaundice, they let her go within a week due to her financial predicament.
Just that week was $200,000.
She was told to go to MD Anderson, since they specialize in Cancer treatment, but she won't get admitted without any money in hand. The cancer is now in stage four and has spread to her lungs (THAT quickly!) and I'm slowly watching my mother wither way because we can't afford the medication.
When we applied for Medicare the case worker almost guaranteed approval, yet to our surprise a week later we're told she's denied simply because she's not 65, and that's where they set the bar.
The longer we wait, the further the cancer is going to spread. They informed us of a successfully known Chemotherapy called "Gemzar." It's an IV and a pill, both way out of any middle class American's pocket.
There's Medicaid, and Medicare-- Medicaid is where she needs to be 65 (no exceptions, this is where I need YOUR help), and Medicare requires her to have worked under SSI for ten years (She's worked much longer than that, but sadly since it's a private, independently owned school it does not qualify.)
