Yeeeeesss...*guilty* 83

But however much I adore these little birds, in reality I would never keep one as a pet, they belong in the wild.

^ This.

Why do people insist on taking a wild animal and turning it into a pet? Many people can't even take care of a cat or a dog.

Kiwis are cute little animals. And I'd love to have a chance to see one in person to take some photos. But would I have one as a pet? Never. They are a wild animal and should remain as such. Period. Just because something is cute does not justify making it a pet in any way, shape, or form.

Agrees with Tib and Dee.

And not just with kiwis that should remain wild. Many exotic birds are endangered because nests are raided and the chicks taken at a young age.
Many that you see in stores are only part the small percentage of what survives the journey from their homes.

I like kiwis though. Both the bird and the fruit :3

It is sickening how humans think it is okay to capture such animals and rip them from their homes. :( Many birds, sugar gliders, even capybaras. They are not there to be made pets out of; they don't belong in someone's living room, they belong in the wild where they are born.

^ I'm just talking about the exotic types. I can't think of how to phase it, but ones that are rather uncommon. Not like a parakeet or canary.

-

@ Tib: Exactly. Though I've heard some people take that as far as to argue that dogs and cats shouldn't be kept as pets either,
cause somewhere in time their ancestors were also wild. The way some people will treat their animals, I'm tempted to side with them,
but there's a difference between having a pet that's been bred in captivity for many many generations, and one that was just ripped out of the wild.

Yeah I agree as so. Wild animals shouldn't be pets. Dogs, house cats, horses, domesticated birds and goldfish were BRED to be pets. And have always been in human captivity for thousands of years. Just taking a wild animal kind of... Isn't good at all. You don't even know what their instincts would do and all that.

I only think domesticated animals should be pets, not wild ones.

And.. One last note.. This discussion reminds me of a movie... *pokes signature* :U

THIS^^
Wild animals should remain wild...So no, I don't want one, and besides, I don't like birds. They're messy and don't make good pets in my opinion.

^ I think a small place could also count as a cage, but cats tend to adapt well with whatever as long as they're given attention.
But yea, I agree on this completely. No matter the species or breeding, animals should have enough space to feel free whether they live with humans or not.
