It's been bugging me that most of the characters on Balto Source come in very repetative breeds. If not wolves, huskies or woldogs, then usually German Shepherds and Border Collies. Also, all the sled dogs tend to be only huskies(or malamutes) and only from racing or mail teams. In fact, in 20's dog sleds were used for almost everyting, especially helping in mines, and many of those dogs weren't purebreed.
Inspired by an album from this site - http://vilda.alaska.edu/, showing sled dogs in Alaska during 1901-1925 era, I decided to make some designs and see if anyone would be interested to join the "historical accuracy fun" and adopt those characters.

Here are the designs:

Rules:
You need to write a full, good bio. Don't make them another "mate-seeker" character.

I´d like to adopt the second one.

Name: Paco
Age: 4 years
Breed: St. Bernhard´s Dog x Samoyed cross
Gender: male
Parents: unknown
Siblings: 2 sisters, 3 brothers
Mate/Crush: Used to have a slight crush on Dusty
Pups: None (neutered)
Personality: Paco is a very kind-hearted dog, always happy to be a help for his owner. He loves his job, even though many sled-dogs often make fun about it saying it´s dumb to simply pull supplies into the work-place. To him, helping his owner is way more honorable than simple racing. He is calm but nowhere near apathetic.
Likes: his owner, his job, children, the smell of freshly cut wood.
Dislikes: storms (he´s afraid of them), failing to help, other dogs making fun of his job, walking on ice
History: Paco was born in spring, 1926. Soon he got adopted by Nome´s carpenter. He bought him as a companion for himself after his wife has died. After a few months it turned out Paco would grow to be a big, strong dog so the carpenter trained him to pull supplies and wood, making the aging man´s life much easier. When his owner doesn´t need him to pull things Paco is allowed to wander around town. He is often to be found in the boiler room, spending time with Doc, who happened to be a father figure and best friend to him.
Relation to Balto: Carpenter´s dog, friends with Doc, had a crush on Dusty

(If you want me to make a picture of him along with this -rather short- bio, please let me know.)

I would like to adopt the fourth one.

Name: Paitan
Age: 4 years
Breed: Saint Pyrenees Mountain Dog Mix
Gender: Male
Parents: Unknown
Siblings: 2 sisters and 3 brothers
Mate/Crush: Dixie
Pups: None yet
Personality: Paitan is a very kind-hearted-active-competitive dog, always happy to lend help when it's needed by people or animals. Well, unless it's for cruel-hearted people and dogs,he doesn't help them. He loves his job and he will always love his job as a dog doctor helper helping out his owner with supplies and stuff for the sick patients and was adopted by a doctor that lives in Nome, Alaska named David Sinkos who bought him for company and a helping dog for getting all the doctor stuff and medicine for the sick patients. When Paitan arrived at his new home he was a really happy dog and barked a little puppy bark when he found out that he was working for a doctor and was glad that he was about to get his dream job as a dog doctor helper helping out his owner taking care of sick and really really sick patients. When Paitan is not needed or does not want to help (Which is not much of the time that he does that.) is when he is free to go over to Mel's house to play with him or walk around the town village with Dixie.
Likes: His job, Children, Dixie, Carpenting, and the smell of dog food
Dislikes: Thunderstorms, the smell of old rotten dog food, ice, rotten wood, and running into trees
Biography: He was born in Nome, Alaska in Spring of 1926 and was adopted by a man named David Sinkos who supposedly was an hispanic person. When he arrived at his new home Paitan jumped off of the man's arms and barked of happiness and started training with David Sinkos of how to train to be a good dog doctor helper and get ready to make some money by helping with the doctor stuff. When Paitan is not working or helping his carpenter owner he is most likely to be found in Mel's house with his owner playing in their with Mel or even walking around the town village of Nome with Dixie. Paitan also knows that Mel is his best friend forever and kind of like a father-dog figure to him, even though their just best friends forever.
Relationship to Balto: Mel's best friend forever and was born in Nome, Alaska

(If you want me to send a picture of him I'd be glad to just PM me if you want me to.)

I'd like to try for the first one.

Name: BlackBurn
Age: 6
Breed:Great Pyrenees Bernese Mountain dog mix
Gender: Male
Parents: Unknown
Siblings:4 males, 2 females
Mates/Crush:Has a crush on Sylvie
Pups: None
Personality: BlackBurn is a serious dog, he takes his lead dog position very seriously. When there is work to be done, he sees that the job gets done.
Likes: Pulling sleds and his lead dog position.
Dislikes: Horsing around, laziness and poor team work
History: BlackBurn was born in the spring of 1919. BlackBurn was the biggest of his siblings, and the strongest. By the time BlackBurn was 2 months old, he had begun training to pull sleds. Blackburn excelled at sled pulling. By the time Blackburn was a year old, he had become the lead dog of his team. His team was used to being supplies to the sawmill. When BlabkBurn isn't working, he hangs around with Steele. But unlike Steele, BlackBurn is not a bully or trouble maker, and does not take part of any trouble Steele may want to cause. Instead, he and Steele race each other through town.

I could have a go at the Fifth one.

Name: Courtland
Age: 4 years
Breed: Mixed breed between a German Shepherd and a Saint Bernard
Gender: Male
Parents: Unknown
Siblings: Unknown
Mate/Crush: None
Pups: None
Personality: Courtland has a very active personality. He enjoys just running around and enjoying the simple things in his life. He also enjoys doing his job, as a sled dog for the US mail as well as the US military postal service. He thinks of his job as just a fun way to have good bonding moments with his fellow sled dogs. He is friends, or at least have good relations, with almost every dog in Nome, including Steele, however he does not enjoy hanging out with Steele sometimes. He just ensures that he makes good ties with everybody. His mentor and his closest friend is Diggs, a military attack dog stationed at the newly established Nome Air Force Base at the outskirts of Nome.

Likes: He likes his friends, his sled team, his military companions, and especially, he likes having fun and just enjoying himself.

Dislikes: He dislikes being bossed and ordered around for no good reason, enemies, being restrained and tied up, and the feeling of being alone and ignored.

History: Courtland was a shelter animal in a small animal shelter in the city of Anchorage. He was adopted by a US soldier who happens to have gained an interest in him. The US soldier was sent to the newly established Nome AFB, and of course, Courtland came along for the ride. There he became a sled dog, among the many other roles he has to fulfill a military dog. He never really knew his parents, due to the fact that he was separated from his family in the early stages of his life.

i'd like to try for the 5
for 5
Name: Barney
Age: 4
Breed:Irish Setter, Labrador mix
Gender: Male
Parents: Two rescue dogs
Siblings:1 female and 3 males
Mates/Crush:Jenna is his mate
Pups: None
Job:Therapy Dog(they are real)
Personality:Barney is very laid back, calm sort of dog. He is mix breed and gets teased cruelly for it but he keeps his head high and walks on, he loves humans they are his 'pets', he is easy to work with as he doesn't try to get in others way, he enjoys being himself and being able to have fun.
Likes: His job, helping children, being himself
Dislikes: Being stressed out
History:Barney was born in a rescue shelter, his parents was rescue dogs and no one wanted them as they were getting on a bit but people wanted puppies. Barney was born with 4 siblings and had to share attention which he didn't mind, but he hated being shoved in the corner like he was nothing. When he was 6 months old he was put up for adoption. He was picked by a little girl and her mother who was a nurse. He was much loved and his humans thought he was the best little puppy ever. He human girl became his best friend and he spent every living minute with her. But then he had to start working, they tried him as a sled dog but he was no use at all so they took him off that. He tried many different jobs but none were right. Eventually his human girl's mother decided to make him a therapy dog as children loved him. However, he was teased mercilessly about being mix bred he despiced but he put his head up high and walked on. He loved his job he would go and see children in the hospital and make them feel better and more cheerful. But then the ditheria came and everything changed dramatically and his human girl was put in hospital. He would always go visit her and make her feel better, he would sleep right next to her like a faithful companion. Oneday he found his other human crying but didn't understand. He went to visit his girl when he got there he could see a black bag sort of a thing the same shape as his girl. It smelt weird yet familiar in a sort of way, he went and had a closer look and realised the horrible truth about what was in the bag and why. He let out a depressed howl.

But around 4 months later he met Jenna. A beautiful and smart husky. He fell in love with her and they eventually became mates and he was then accepted by the dogs which had despiced him meer months ago.

Hmm...I think I may take a stab at either the first, second, or last ones...probably the first. I'd need some time to think over a base line for the bio. I know I have a few Balto-related ideas they could get tied into...

Jordan> You get him.
DodgerBaltoBoltfan1> I don't know if in his bio you're reffering to Jordan's Paco, but if not, then story looks too similar and the bred doesn't fit neither for be related with him nor for his appearance.
Mighty> Okay, you get him.
TheInbetweener> I like the idea of therapy dog. You get him.
Sorry Bambi Fletcher, you can try for another one.

Here it is my entry for number six, the last one C:

Name:
Amore&Psiche (prefers to be called "Psiche")
Gender:
female
Age:
3-4 years old
Breed:
50% Dutch Sheperd 50% Fresian Pointer
Parents:
unknown
Siblings:
unknown
Mate/Crush:
was Kaltag, it is unknown if he still is
Pups:
none

Personality:
extremely proud of herself and the fact that she is a working dog, she'll give all herself to what he does, even if she may not like it; she may be seen cold and unfriendly at first meeting mostly because she doesn't feel very comfortable around new dogs, yes, she's the kind of dog that you'd immetialy stick as nasty, even if she's not; she rarely speaks, because she's alone most of the time but she's a good listener even if she doesn't know to give good advices or a good word.

Likes/Dislikes:
she doesn't stand dogs from town because, exept for sled/mail dogs, in her opinion, most of them are just doing nothing than showing off while she has to work almost all the day, tired or not, without complaining. She likes tranquillity and silence, crowded places are not for her (she definately will never go to see a sled race again). Due to her job, she is a well proportioned mutt and used to be courted or teased by many dogs, because she is doing a job that a girl shouldn't do, which gives her another reason to hate pets and other dogs

History:
her parents were two dogs used as guard dogs in a farm not too far from Juneau where raindeer/caribou were kept, used for their pelt, their meat, their milk. Psiche doesn't remember if she had siblings or not, she was taken away at a young age and moved to White Mountain where she was trained to pull sleighs. She was strong, stronger than other dogs but not fast. Between the dogs she was trained with, she was probably the slowest. Praised for her strenght, her trainer didn't want her to just sit there and do nothing. She was sold to a man that was searching for strong dogs as he worked on a mine and dogs, preferably with a familiarity to pulling sleighs, were always useful. The last dog he had (a Retriver mix) died of old age and he needed a new young dog. Her now owner was working to find gold or other valuable materials in the Nome Mining District. Psiche had the job to pull a sleigh with the tools and the supplies for the job. She didn't truly like it but she had to do it, if she was chosen for it, it meant that she was the best and nobody else would fit. Even if she was tired, she worked and did her best. But even the best ones fall. Her owner, after a period of bad luck since he found almost no gold, decided to try to go deeper in the mine, even if it was dangerous. Psiche followed him, of course and, when a big rock from a wall cracked and fell on them, she barked soon enough to save her owner. Too bad one of her back paws got stuck and she was unable to work properly. Her owner was forced to buy another dog while she was recovery, a dog that would become her co-worker once she was up on her paws again. Psiche didn't like the idea but soon realized that there was no other choice. The dog was a reddish husky with a prodigy family: his father was Nome's hero Balto. But this husky mutt, Ike, was nothing like the father and was sold for being a useless sled/mail dog and breeder. Psiche felt pity for him but didn't show it. He wasn't the best companion to work with but at least he was silent and quiet, just what she wanted. She never complained about him befriending and liking a fox.

Relation to Balto:
used to have a crush on Kaltag, she once went to see a sled race (and hated it for all the crowd and the noise) but admired the sled dogs, especially Kaltag, for their job. Her co-worker is the son of Balto.

In case you want to check, this is Ike and the fox
