So do I, at first I thought they wanted to make a "trash" Mickey game with post-apocalyptic settings like most nowadays games, when in fact they want to make a 1930-looking game going back to the roots of both the characters AND video gaming.

Oh-my-gosh. I'm becoming more and more amazed.

Here's a little extract of one interview of Warren Spector :

Quote:
WS: Also, I want to do a Duck Tales game. Convince the world that a Duck Tales game needs to be made. I can’t convince anybody at Disney to let me do a Duck Tales game. How can that be?

GI: Everybody I know, when you ask about the cartoons that they are fond of from childhood, there’s that varying list of all the action ones, the G.I. Joes and the Transformers and the Thundercats and all that stuff, but everybody loves Duck Tales.

WS: Carl Barks really is the greatest American comic book writer and artist ever. Some people would say Will Eisner. There’s competition. But Carl Barks is the best, and he wrote and drew the stories that inspired half of those Duck Tales episodes, and they are watered down. You would not believe the beauty and the power of those stories. They’re not for kids. They’re really very adult or certainly appealing to the broadest possible audience, which is kind of where I want to be now. I don’t want to make games for kids, I don’t want to make games for gamers, I want to make games for everybody. I think if someone did Carl Barks or Duck Tales right, it would be awesome. Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge were Indiana Jones 50 years before Indy was a glimmer in Spielberg’s eyes. It’s just amazing, and they’re doing nothing with him right now.

GI: You can make that happen.

WS: Yeah, we’ll see. That’s a big organization to buck.

GI: But once you do Mickey, it all opens up, doesn’t it?

WS: We’ll see. I hope you’re right.

Warren Spector is about to move from just another game developer to one of my top ten game developers if he can make Disney let him do a Duck Tales game...That just opens up a world of possibility's. He really seems to love Disney characters! something I would never have guessed before the interview when he reviled his collection. I'm projecting heavily, but what if "Epic Mickey" becomes a blockbuster hit and they let him make this Duck Tales game? could this be a return to Disney greatness with video games as the medium instead of movies?

Both would be even better :) (aka Princess & the Frog)
I sure hope that at least one of the two becomes a great success. They deserve to. Epic Mickey has the potential to become a "new" Kingdom hearts in terms of sales (and seeing how much KH games still sell well, there really is potential customers) It's great to see Disney finally taking some "risks", in the right path.

And don't forget that Disney has always been the one the animation industry follows. (except for CGI) If they do get back to traditional characters and animation and it's a success, you can bet other companies will.

I'm hoping people will fall for the Disney charm with "Princess & the Frog" and go see it just because it's a Disney film and end up liking it. *Fingers Crossed*. I see "Epic Mickey" selling very well, traditional and new gamers seem very excited about it and if it's a good game it should sell well.

Too bad this isn't on PC, I've never owned a console other than hand-held and I don't think that'll change soon

Interesting little article Epic Mickey was originally a 360, PS3, and PC game but was later switched over to being a Wii exclusive.

Interesting. Actually I don't care much what machine this is going to be on, but at least this shows they will make good use of the Wii capacities (in terms of controller), and the game will probably be different from what it would have been on the other platforms.

Bad move. Sales will go down the terlet compared to how high they could have been on PC and PS3.

well I rather like this move...dedication to one console, regardless of which one, will make a better game overall plus the Wii's install base alone is as big as the 360's and PS3's combined at the moment, besides PC game sales account for nil of the overall market. this move will make for a better end product because now they only have to deal with one console's architecture instead of three, and on a console well equipped to get it in the hands of up to 50 million people.

Currently I'm more worried about the rumors spreading currently about a new HD home console to replace the Wii, stated for release late 2010...
If this were to happen, less people would buy a game for the "old" Wii. Especially when it comes to third party games, which tends to send badly on the Wii already.

Also, currently the opinions I have seen here and there are pretty bad on the game, due to the poor visuals (which I don't find that poor myself, considering the hardware it's running on) People forget that they still have a full year to improve that, and that visuals are only one part of a game - personally I prefer good musics than good visuals, when it comes to video games.

Actually when I saw the screens I went "Wow they're already this far along! Imagine what the graphics are going to look like in a year." Polishing in everything, no matter what console. In response to a "Wii 2" most people are speculating Nintendo will showcase one at next year's E3 and give us a rough release time in most likely November of 2011, but regardless of this fact I'm confident that with the install base Nintendo has built this generation the "Wii 2" will be an incremental upgrade so as to not alienate those who don't what to upgrade like the DS/DSlite/DSi family.

True, if I were Nintendo, I would make the "new" Wii HD games to work on Wii too, and the other way round (just like the DS family, as you said)

Coming back to the topic : Warren Spector said that :

Quote:
A potential Xbox 360 and PS3 port of Wii exclusive Epic Mickey is "a decision that other people in the Disney organisation are going to make," Warren Spector has told CVG.

Speaking to us in London last night, Spector said: "Right now we're a Wii game and I'm happy to be able to focus.

"It's interesting - it's kind of fun to be able to focus on gameplay and not have to worry about modern shader stuff," he said.

"That's got its place but you know what? If I never make another game that's trying to be the hyper-realistic, look like everybody else in the world... I'm OK with that. I don't need to do that anymore.

"I'm really enjoying working on a platform where gameplay is 'it'," he added.

Epic Mickey - which is looking very promising indeed - originally started life as a PC, 360 and PS3 game, Spector revealed yesterday, before switching platforms to Wii.

Maybe other versions shouldn't be ruled out, then...

Actually at around the time the Game Informer article surfaced there was a period when there was no mention of this being a Wii-exclusive game, later that error was corrected but it did get people thinking that maybe other consoles where not to be completely written off. I personally wouldn't be too surprised if this game ends up on PC depending on how reliant it is on the Wii's controls and how much the two have in common when you think about the Wii's IR sensor translating into mouse pointer movements.
