This is a Warriors fanfic based on a roleplay between me and one of my real life highschool friends, who I have only just introduced to the Warriors series and roleplaying.

PLOT: Near the ocean live four clans; Flightclan, Badgerclan, Pineclan and Lunarclan. The main clan in this story is Flightclan and it goes through their everyday struggles, dramas and joys. On top of this, there is a new prophecy that can only be full-filled by death.

Chapter One; The Chosen Ones

Jaystar slowly awakened to the sound of faint giggles. Peering out of her den she spotted the apprentice Kestrelpaw and her friend Foxpaw. "Don't you two have anything better to do than annoy the leader?" The grey-blue tabby grumbled, her white-tipped tail twitching irritably. Kestrelpaw merely giggled again, and then pushed her dark ginger friend. "C'mon Foxpaw... Let's just go." The eagle-brown shecat mewed. Foxpaw nodded in agreement, and then tapped his best friend on the shoulder. "Tag! You're 'it'." He announced, dashing away from her quickly. As the two chased each other around the camp, the young warrior Hawkstrike padded out sleepily. His pelt was the colour of fresh mud and his eyes were the colour of a deep, fast-flowing river. "Could you two keep it down? I was on dawn patrol." He stated drowsily, allowing a big yawn to trail from his biscuit-coloured jaws.

"Oh but Hawkstrike, we're just having a bit of fun before our final assessments." Foxpaw meowed, shaking snow from his dark ginger pelt. Hawkstrike sighed and sat down, placing a paw to his forehead as if he had a huge headache. “You’re almost warriors, act like it!” He snapped. The apprentices’ whiskers twitched with amusement as the young warrior’s eyes drifted closed and he began to snore on the spot. “Is it possible for one to fall asleep sitting up?” Kestrelpaw asked, raising a brow. No sooner as she had asked that, Hawkstrike fell face-first into the ground but remained asleep. Foxpaw shrugged lightly. “Nope.” He answered.

Squealing reached the apprentices’ ears as two kits ran from the nursery; Rainkit and Berrykit. Rainkit was a white-and-tortoiseshell she-kit, while Berrykit was a mottled brown tom with a cream-coloured jaw. The two siblings were playing ‘Badger’ and Berrykit was the warrior, while his sister pretended to be a big, cat-eating, angry badger. “Rooooaaaarrrr!” Rainkit roared, “I’m gonna eat you o’brave Flightclan warrior!”

Berrykit squealed and batted at his sister’s shoulders with his claws sheathed. “No way badger, I’m gonna beat you and keep your head for a trophy; to show my superior strength!”

Kestrelpaw and Foxpaw exchanged amused glances; these kits were just like them… Excited, for they were going to be apprenticed in a few days’ time. “I wonder who they will choose to mentor them.” Foxpaw meowed, sitting down and trailing his long pink tongue over his single white paw. Kestrelpaw shook her head and shrugged. “I don’t know, but I hope they get good mentors… Wouldn’t want anyone grumpy like Hawkstrike or Bluebelly.”

“Hey, Bluebelly’s not all that bad… He’s almost an elder, so he has an excuse to be grumpy and he isn’t even all that mean.” Foxpaw defended the senior warrior. “However, you’re right about Hawkstrike… He doesn’t even want us to have any fun.” He snorted. Kestrelpaw nodded in agreement, frowning. “Though, he DID hold his warrior vigil then go on dawn patrol straight after… Perhaps we were being a bit noisy.”

The dark ginger tom shrugged. “Oh well, we have the right to be… Its daylight, almost everyone’s up AND we’re excited.” He told her, glaring in the direction of the sleeping tom. “He has bees in his pelt.”

Kestrelpaw giggled. “Oh Foxpaw, don’t be mean.” She scolded playfully. Just then they heard their mentors, Cloudspirit and Torchtail, call to them. “Well… Let’s go get our final assessments over and done with.” Kestrelpaw mewed, hurrying over to Torchtail.

At dusk…

Foxpaw slowly padded back into camp, trailing behind Cloudspirit. He was utterly exhausted, he felt as though he could sleep for moons. And still there was the question of whether or not he would pass buzzing in his mind and irritating him greatly. He wished he could just relax; it was all he wanted to do. Finally he forced himself to eat a vole off the fresh kill pile, and only looked up once when he heard the sound of approaching pawsteps. Kestrelpaw plopped down onto the ground beside him, not bothering to grab something to eat. “My paws are all sore.” She complained. “It was never like that on our first assessment.”

“Yes… But first assessments are the easiest.” Foxpaw pointed out, swiping his tongue around his jaws to get rid of the prey juices. “Just think… If we passed, we’ll become warriors. How are we supposed to know if we passed anyways?”

“We don’t.” Kestrelpaw meowed bluntly. “We wait and see…”

“Wait and see? For what?” Foxpaw asked.

“Wait and see if there’s going to be a ceremony.” The she-cat replied. Foxpaw sighed and licked his paws clean. ‘I hope there will be a ceremony.’ He thought.
