Lofty ideals embound their tale.
They were just lads.
Many had never left the family farm.
Bound for adventure.
Tattered banners and vacant fields are all that remain.
Once they sounded with the screams of the dying and the wounded.
The very ground soaked with blood.
But no longer do men fight boys.
Boys crying out for their mothers in their last moments.
They lie quiet under shady trees with monuments wreathed overhead.
They are America’s forgotten hero’s.
Names no longer remembered.
Their story is one everyone knows but pays little attention to.
Whether blue or grey.
They deserve homage and appreciation for their sacrifices.
It takes true patriotism to thank them for what they have done and the road they paved.
For you and for me.
Honor them.
Remember them.
