I don't know if anyone has seen the "When Weather Changed History" a few months ago but, it mostly talked about Togo. But I noticed something. Togo had ran the most length. He would have ran longer if Lehnord Seppla was allowed but, he wasn't. It was passed on to another musher. But, Balto ended the serum run. He didn't technicly run it to alone. But, people are giving him most of the credit for it. I like Balto better because I know more information about him and I think that's why alot of people around my area like him better because he's well known but, how about Togo?

Its pretty sad isn't it? Togo ran the longest, and he was the oldest(12 years-old) and yet Balto who was only like 2 or 6 got all of the credit for it. Guess its just because Balto is the one who brought the serum to Nome. =/ But either way it is unfair. And not only that but all of the other dogs in that run were pretty much forgotten..

Techinically every single dog and musher who ran in the serum run is a hero.
It's not really about who ran the furthest or who brought it finally into Nome itself, the conditions were harsh the whole way for every musher and their team, they all deserve the same amount of respect and credit really even if Togo lead his team the furthest or if Balto lead the team into nome itself.

Exactly right. How many of you can rattle off the names of even a few of the other dogs (and not just the moderately-well publicized ones from Balto's team, but the other team's members)? Do they deserve the obscurity they faded into? Each of them ran as hard as Togo and Balto did...maybe in atmospheric conditions a bit less horrendous than the last FEW teams (including the ones between Togo's and Balto's), but there were plenty of other treacherous and dangerous conditions they had to face. And they all did it marvelously (some died as a result). Agreed. ALL participants of the Serum Run were heroes. All the dogs and not to mention all the people that were in the race...Or even the people that helped the mushers prepare for their journey. ^^

It is arguable whether one dog or all dogs are supposed to be called "heroes" for their efforts to save the children of Nome in 1925 (which was in the beginning of World War 2, incidentally - give or take a few years) from Diptheria. Some people may yell to a wall about how Balto was the real hero and that he deserved all the credits, while others may do the same about Togo, or any other dog of the Serum Run.
However, Balto did get more credit than he really deserved, but not because he ran a relatively short distance. All the dogs deserved the credit, for they had put their lives on the line for the humans they served and strived through storms and other hazards to get to - and bring back - the medicine.
Togo is not the real hero. Balto is not the real hero. All the dogs are the heroes (yes, plural). Claiming that one dog is a hero, putting the rest in the shadows is wrong; both ethically (subj. term, therefore arguable) factually (right word? O.o), because all the dogs - together with their mushers - are heroes.

I agree. Balto and Togo are the biggest part of the serum run to people. But, how about the 148 dogs that ran in the serum run? Why can't we recall thier names immeditly?

Yeah, Balto was A hero but not THE hero. Togo should have more credit than he has now. :/
