I have been doing some research on Vern's books and although I've yet too read four of the five books I'm about too mention they have much that influences Karnage and his gang.

First is Captain Nemo from "20,000 Leeagues Under the Sea" (the book I read) and "The Mysterious Island" who is the least of them being and all out Byronic Hero as he's getting back at the great powers for what they do too many of the worlds people and fighting for them.
But his vast knowlarge of the world is in Karnage, though he's FAR less good at useing it! Also has some of his charm.

The next is Ker Karraje from "Facing the Flag", alough Malay rather the Spainish or Latin Americain as Karnage comes off as he has a similar name, personality (down too the last detail) and love of advanced super weapons in the form of subs (like Nemo) and directed energy weapons (I think but it's at least some BIG gun) and a crew from all over the world who do their job well (I think the crew on the Iron Vulture do a good job most of the time, they get where they need too and have a reputation).
He is finally defeated by a multy-national force.

The last is more of an Anti-hero again but Robur from "Robur the Conqueror" and "Master of the World" is an inventer who builts a rotorcraft similar too the Iron Vulture to show that such craft are suprior too gas filled ones (though I think the Iron Vulture is a hybred that uses both systems, and I think such are being devloped today as they are a possible way too transport HUGE amounts of cargo sheeply and cleanly).
He kidnapes some of his doubters, takes them around the world and battles the rivel airship and beats it in a test of capability and then has too save it's crew, then departs saying the world is not ready for such technology.
The next story he's in is about other craft that involve flight but from what I know is more about him showing off.

These are the three who I think eigther influenced or by conindence have much in common with Don Karnage, although two of them arn't villains they still have much in common with him.

That's an interesting observation; I wouldn't be surprised at all if TS creators were influenced by Jules Verne ;)

For the record it's a rough thing I worked out having only read one book and when I wasn't such a good reader back then (I may have mentioned it before but I have what they call learning disabilitys, but they affect more) but from reading a basic plot description I put the ends together.

Well, Jules Verne is one of the first author when it comes to Steampunk. And TaleSpin is very Steampunk!
So yes, I can really see the relation. :)

I never thought of it so much as steempunk myself, more in the case of the Iron Vuture as Diesel punk, though some of Karnag's traps were. I really ment personality, Nemo's disden for the powers and captialists, Robar's extreamitism (the other type of reglious where they blow up warships and such rather then skyscrapers) and Karraje's wild greed and psychotic nature.
