Not that I really care all that much since I hardly ever go on the shoutbox anymore, but all the ones I have left up SHOULD be accepted. Never before the new shoutbox mods has their been a problem with ones like "lmao" "w00t", "pwn" and the other ones I have left. To make that a rule NOW... It's just absurd. Telling all of the members who have been here LONGER than these new shoutbox mods that are trying to push this new "what's accepted and what's not and if you don't listen I'll ban you D<" isn't really right either. So what is "lmao" means "laughing my a$$ off"? Pff.. One little word that isn't even a swear made that fun "sms" go on the unaccepted list? And what, making "ily" unacceptable just because it means "I love you"? HAHAHA. That's really funny. Just because mates isn't allowed doesn't mean that shouldn't be. FRIENDS can say it to each other you know. lol. It's rules like this that make me glad I have places like Balto's Treasure where they know the difference between bad sms and acceptable sms. No offense, but jeeze.

Good job. I'm sure this'll stop the newbies from saying stuff like: "r u thar?" This'll be a huge help for the SMS problem.

No offense, but jeeze. On a more personal level, I think SMS shouldn't be allowed at all, in any shape or form (even though I am guilty of using SMS to make fun of it). There is nothing out there that stops people from writing properly on the internet (apart from their own laziness)... but in fear og getting repetitive, I voiced my opinion about this in one of my dA journals - and here: viewtopic.php?p=743243#p743243Regardless, these are the rules as of what the shoutbox moderators (to my knowledge - I only keep it updated) have come to an agreement on. I don't really care what the older members think of the rules if all they are going to do is to whine about it without posting constructive suggestions to changes (like you made a constructive suggestion, tibby - I'll make sure it reaches SB-moderators' eyes). Again from a more personal and biased perspective, I notice the only ones actually complaining about these rules are the ones who frequently use SMS in their chats on a daily basis - often the younger members. The ones who do not seem to have no problem with these rules. Now, I am not intentionally suggesting anything - merely pointing out an observation. Regardless, if members think these rules are too strict, they should make constructive suggestions to changes. Pointless complaints and whines with no basis or any indication of what we could do to make it more liveable are rarely heard - mainly because we cannot please everyone, though we try. Some, like me, enjoy literate 'conversations' on the internet while others, well... more illiterate. It's therefore hard to please everyone, but we do take every suggestion into consideration - on the condition that it's more constructive than whining without a suggestion that could potentially improve the situation.

It's therefore hard to please everyone, but we do take every suggestion into consideration - on the condition that it's more constructive than whining without a suggestion that could potentially improve the situation. Well, when I text or use MSN Messenger, I chatspeak all the time--- I do so when texting because, well, texting is annoying to type every word perfectly literately, ad so long as the people as I'm sending it to can understand, why should it matter that I'm not perfectly literate? I usually only use abbreviattions like 'c' for 'see' or 'u' for 'you' because I just want to type it fast. And I do so on MSN because I sort of feel as though it's my friends' and my own form of English--- using 'haii' instead of 'hi' or 'hello', 'luL' instead of 'lol' or 'laugh out loud' and well, the list goes one. Sometimes, it takes just as much effort, if not more, to type like this, but like I said, it's kind of like our own little language. Or better yet, our "net accent". But, as may be evident now, I use perfect (or my best) grammar when in forums and more "formal" sorts of technological communication. Why? It's just good manners. Really, my speaking just adjusts to whatever "habitat" I'm in. Phones- lazy. Messengers- Accented. Forums- formal.
