First of all, it's been years since I've seen B3, but I have read through the script and seen lots of screencaps and I remember most of it now (at first I could only remember Stelle singing 'fly with me' XD).

Now, I always had the impression that Mel and Dipsy were mates. But as I've yet to see any fan-pups or any even mention of them being together, I suppose some think they're not?

Anyway, so I'd just like to know what you guys thought. And I'm in the process of designing some cute Basset Hound X Lakeland Terrier pups! (And another thing, what breeds do YOU think they are?)

Maybe, but I always thought of mel as an Airdale, but that's basicly a bigger version of a Lakeland, right? my mom used to have an Airdale. And Dispy as somne kind of Cocker spainel mixed dog, or maybe just a sort of spainel. Maybe she's a Basset, but I always thought spainel.

Yeah, a Lakeland is just like a smaller version of an Airedale. And yes, Dipsy could be a Cocker but to me the only problem is that she looks smooth-haired, otherwise I would think so too.

In one of the old 'suggestions' for what Dipsy could look like, she looked like a verrry fat Cocker Spaniel.

And as for them being mates, here is a line that probably gave me the most idea of them being mates:

They could just be close friends, but that's the thing; if they were just friends, you'd think that his worrisome attitude would get on her nerves quite a lot, wouldn't you? And he'd probably make a few light-hearted jokes about her weight, but no. I think they have actually been mates for a while, at least as long as Balto and Jenna. But, it is all a matter of opinion.

Agreed,look at the way Mel talked to Dipsy about the E.D.A.S.

Mel:We have to alert the E.D.A.S.

Dipsy:And what would that be?

Mel:Numbskull,the Emergency Dog Alert System!

Dipsy:Ohhhhh!

And you've never heard married or coupled people playfully insult each other?

I don't see them as mates, but just close friends.
As for their breeds.
Mel to me is a airdale

Dispy is a basset with a stubby tail.

Well Airedales are only a little smaller or close to the same size as a husky, which is why I think he's a Lakeland. They're just like miniature Airedales.

Mel and Dipsy . . . as MATES????

I think I've been watching a different movie than the rest of you guys. Personally, I think they are just good friends that prefer to talk and such to each other. I agree that Mel would be far too worriesome for anything related to the topic of love or romance . . and Dipsy's far too into what she puts in her stomach to be into a relationship with anyone, even to Mel of all dogs.

Now, could they go as far as to become mates? I don't know. I think that they'd just continue to be just friends. (plus, the thought of their kids just seems WEIRD to me. They'd probably be overworriesome, always-eating pups that choose to stick low to the ground. XD)

True what you said, but still I figure they've been together for at least as long as Balto and Jenna (I think longer, though) so when they were younger they would've appeared more into each other and after they've been mates for a while the initial excitement wears off XD and they're not so worried about impressing each other.

But it's really a matter of opinion, maybe a good question for Phil Weinstein (sp?).
