Sorry if theres already a topic like this ;___;

I want to know whats the scariest animated movie/cartoon you've seen.
Stop motion can count too.

Mine would probably be "When The Wind Blows" (1987).
It's a combination of stop motion and traditional animation.
It's an adaption from the Raymond Briggs book.
Image
"When the Wind Blows depicts a nuclear attack on the UK by the Soviet Union from the viewpoint of a retired couple, Jim and Hilda Bloggs. The Bloggs live in rural Sussex and are confused regarding the nature and seriousness of their situation. This confusion is sometimes used to generate gentle comedy as well as darker elements. As the film progresses, things become steadily more hopeless as the couple suffer from the effects of radiation sickness."

The film really freaked me out and gave me nightmares for a few nights.
Actually... ;___; More than a few.

Image
One thing I love about this movie is how they put this children's book type of style against this dark backdrop of a nuclear fallout. The film starts with very vibrant warm colors, but as it progresses and the Blogg's become more and more ill, they get dark and unappealing.
I notice the small, weird things. ;___; bahh.

The whole movie is on Youtube, if you Google it.
It can be slow at times...Watching it, I was like "Mmkay...Nice..."
But by the ending I felt super heart sick. The final use of stop motion was what sent me over the edge and gave me a couple of sleepless nights. ;___;

Anyway, what are some sad/scary/disturbing animations you've seen?
Maybe i've seen them too! :D

I haven't seen a topic like this. It's a good idea and you write a very good review ;]

A lot of the other members here will recognize these, but for me it'd be either:

Plague Dogs

A very good movie, and the meaning of it is very effective the way the sadness of it over powers you in my opinion.
Centered around animal testing, I was disturbed as it made sad. And there were other points as well. Such as how how stupid people can be when they just assume something.
All I wanted though this film was for the dogs to find someone who wasn't a pansy and love them. ...almost happened once, but that was a disaster...
and in the end it kind of just abruptly ends leaving me annoyed and confused. But I've heard by those that have read the book that it does actually have a happy ending.

Felidae

This movie was just... dark. A murder mystery with lots of killing and in not very pretty ways. ...well unless you're into that kind of thing.
Not very kid friendly in other ways either.
It was a good film with good animation, but it just about turned my stomach at times.

^ gah Roi, you beat me too it x3 Felidae is DEFINITELY a very dark and disturbing film - with lots of violence, sex and course language all the way through. It made my stomach turn as well, but I find it a very fascinating and interesting movie.. how they made the cats so human-like and mix science and religion into a very well thought-up murder mystery. I've yet to see an animated film as disturbing as this one.. but i think it's a great film. xD

Barefoot Gen had some pretty disturbing parts, especially the part when the Atomic Bomb drops on Japan. And I'm sure most of you have heard of the "Mysterious Stranger" scene in the stop motion film The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985). If not here's the scene.

Haha, the movie wasn't as scarey as the book to me. That lovely piece of literature gave me nightmares! Especially the part with the buttons.

I was disturbed by most of the more violent scenes in the "Watership Down" movie when I was little. I never looked at rabbits the same way again, but I still love that movie! ^-^

Definitely Felidae

and The Triplets of Belleville. It wasn't really a disturbing movie, in that it didn't contain sex, or language, but some of it was pretty violent and the film, over all, had a kind of gloomy outlook (though it wasn't a gloomy movie).

I've never seen Felidae before. But it doesn't look child friendly to me.

Coraline was just... freaky. I would never watch that movie late at night. EVER. The end credits with the bat/dogs and the children's choir singing was just really creepy. *shudders*

Just because it's animated it doesn't mean it's for kids. People tend to put animated movies equally with kid movies then bash things like Watership Down for being sadistic.

Talking about "Watership Down"? Yeah, sure it was pretty creepy. I loved the book though...
I agree with Roi on "Plague Dogs". This was so extremely sad that I wanted to sit in my emo corner and never get up.
I need to mention "Grave Of The Fireflies". My favourite movie. A masterpiece. Very deep and touching, but also very sad. It was not bloody or anything, but it's devinitely not for kid's mind.

As mentioned above, definitely Felidae. It's a great movie but definitely not for a kid audience. Remember kids, not all animation is kid-friendly!

Also mentioned is Watership Down and The Plague Dogs. I really cannot say which is the more violent of the two as I haven't seen Watership Down yet.

And Sakujo beat me to it with Grave of the Fireflies. This takes place after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII and is about two orphaned kids struggling to make it in the world. Definitely not kid-friendly.

I think All Dogs Go to Heaven would also fit here. Gambling, guns, death, heaven and hell, especially during Charlie's nightmare where he goes to Hell and meets the Devil (and who doesn't think that scene isn't creepy?). I, personally, was never disturbed as I saw this movie when I was much older, but to a kid, I think it could fit in a disturbing or at least frightening. But that's just my thoughts.

I'll come back to this if I remember any more
