Here's the thing : the game i have made so far is only a tiny part of the project i have in mind!
Recently i've been writing all the ideas i have, but i miss one big thing to start for real : the story!!!

I want to make an adventure game (so lots of dialogs) with some platforming levels and shoot'em up levels, integrated into the story.

I have compiled a (RANDOM!) list of all the things i want to see happening in the game & how the game will work :

  • The adventure part will play like a point & click PC adventure game (click on the screen to do actions, talk, collect items...) and talk with the other characters. (like a visual novel)
  • 16-bit style but with modern graphics/musics
  • A game for fans and everyone
  • The scenario is the core of the game : at each level, we have to let the player wonder what's next to motivate to go through them!
  • A varied game!

    * Platform levels :
    . simple horizontal level
    . vertical level (running from lava?)
    . running level (avoid a bowlder?)
    . "jungle book" style level
    . "super hero" level (or mini game? may be difficult to fit in story)
    . air pirate lair HAS to be a level!! (traps, lots of ennemies, lava, plaftorm, danger...)
    . "thembria" level, possibly at war.
    . one level in which we can only do one thing : jump! (or mini game?)
    . Possible to dig to find stuff? (in certain places?) people love getting secret items = positive
    . Break crates to get items.
    . Wagons = jump and avoid walls
    . Travelators
    . Ennemies hiding (half hidden), shooting from above with weapons...
    . Kit on airfoil messing with ennemies planes
    . characters to protect and/or follow
    . follow ennemy or run away from it
    . randomly generated level?
    . gain abilities progressively? (jump onto ennemies, bump into them, )
    . keys and locks => baloo could lost the key in the middle of the level ^^'
    . stealing
    . blowing monster if we touch it
    . different day times : morning, sunset, night...shadows on characters.
    . different weathers too : snow, rain...
    . killing smoke
    . underwater? i don't like them too much, but...
    . lifts
    . entering and leaving houses in platform scenes
    . invisible platforms and blocks for bonuses
    . ennemy absorbs vital energy
    . mouse/hunt traps

    * Shoot'em up levels :
    . first one without weapons (= tricks? push the other planes into water? go under a bridge? etc) Then make Baloo reconsider not having weapons on the Sea duck for the rest of the game :)
    . one level = recreation of the TS NES game level 1 for fun! and a HUGE boss near impossible to beat at the end (= nightmare)!
    . One level seen from side, one level seen from top.
    . Get new weapons
    . on some situations : prevent from shooting or it blows up
    . bad weather/storm

    * Bonus stages / Mini games :
    . to win more money
    . allow to play other characters (karnage, kit, rebecca?)
    . Dancing mini-game at Louie's!
    . "Time attacks" on the platform levels
    . making deliveries
    . kit delivering pizzas with airfoil...from the sea duck (crash pizzas on citizens = FUN) while avoiding buildings
  • Reflexion / enigmas? In adventure & platform modes. probably difficult to add enigmas in shootem up stages.
  • Inventory? In adventure & platform modes. What could we collect/buy? Weapons? Bombs for throwing to ennemies? smoke bombs?
  • Humor - hard to do in a game, ideas? like baloo jumping and breaking things due to his weight
  • Beat'em all stages?
  • Money = IMPORTANT, necessary to buy gas for deliveries (accessing other levels), to buy items/extra lives, to improve strength
  • Collect XP (or money?) : to get extras : pics, "making of", bonus levels
  • Everytime (including platform & shootem up levels) : characters talking! VERY important to get the player involved in the story, just try not to overload/block the player with them. Example = Starfox for shootem up dialogs.
  • But give possibility to skip dialogs for people who prefer action!
  • Platform levels : possible to dig (at certain places?)
  • Each level unique, different in some ways. (graphics, level design, ennemies ) But reuse elements for making bonus levels to make game longer.
  • Listen to the radio = get the news
  • I would like the game to have suspense, so when you enter a level, you have to wonder what happens next. And plot twists. That would push the player to continue (i know it does for me, i don't like games without a good scenario)
  • Hub / Map who would be the central point, access to higher for hire, to louie's etc and next missions
  • Freely move into Higher for hire and other places, talk with other Talespin characters between each level
  • When talking to other characters : offer different topics to the player, characters reacting to what has been said
  • Possibly several endings (two? regular ending, and one with Baloo finally getting with Rebecca if you choose the right answers in dialogs and such)
  • "what is talespin?" On main menu => when starting new game, ask if player "are you familiar with talespin?"
  • game entirely playable with a gamepad. Mouse = bonus to make some parts easier to play (eg : adventure mode)
  • Text : vary speed, color, sound, pauses like a japanese visual novel
  • questions on the game near the ending, ala banjo kazooie
  • option to buy back the sea duck : available from the very beginning! (of course impossible goal)

SCENARIO IDEAS

  • A bit more mature story, but still "TaleSpin" / PG rating. World war 2? Thembrians involved for sure!
  • Karnage and Air pirates : for sure!!
  • Khan : for sure!! Big boss, money, business => everything to be involved in a war
  • Ace london? helping the air pirates against baloo?
  • Some fan-favorites females : Myra Foxworthy, Katie Dodd?
  • trader moe and the goons?
  • Scrooge mc duck cameo? could be nice for disney fans. (or more than that?? important involvement in the scenario? business with Khan?)
  • torture scene? danger makes characters show their true, inner selves
  • Discover more about the characters past : tie up the loose ends!!
    Be the ultimate talespin "fanfic" that would wrap up everything we'd like to know (their past : what happened to Becky's husband? To Kit's parents? How could Baloo buy the Sea Duck and his air service? and their future : B&B relationship...)
  • surprises, unexpected! PLOT TWISTS!!!
  • level happening before "plunder lightning" (first level??)
  • "Bagherra" = new character involved in the story
  • kit's father : during the course of the plot, kit encounters him. The father recognizes him (but not the opposite), decides not to tell him first, then decide otherwise. He's a bad guy and wants to literrally use his son. He's his "only family" left. He apologizes for abandoning him and wants his son back. Kit doesn't really have a choice and leave HFH. Baloo becomes desperate again (aka stormy weather), understand that it's his true father and it's better this way, but still can't accept it. "This time there's no way i'll get him back..." Becky tries to comfort him but not sure what to do. Then father tries to (do something bad, like using kit for stealing, while hiding this fact from kit) => involvement with the main plot. Kit discovers it and want to escape, but father put him in closed room which kit cannot escape. He manages to find a way to contact HFH (bird with message?) Baloo gets the message and fights his way through to get Kit back.
  • kit wants something that baloo cannot give : make the player need money to give that present to kit!

So here's what I'm asking : can you help me build a story involving all these elements? I need something to link all these elements together in one big, huge story. Suggest me ideas! ANYTHING!!! Don't be shy!!

Well it's possible, we will need original characters for this story. But one condition : you need to help me figure out a story that would involve your character ^^ (not just "he is one of the air pirates", it needs to be more than that)

Wow, that's a big list! :shock:
And from what I can see, it looks pretty interesting :)
I'm not very good when it comes to writing stories though...Maybe you could check the "Virtual Season" board, there were a lot of ideas posted there.
One of mine was "mind reading", I thought it would be cool to have Baloo be able to read other people's mind :)

I propose to introduce into the game Katie Dodd and make one of levels in the lost city. Klang can be the boss of this level. And Katie can reappear in the final battle and help to player.

Nice to help you improving this game project. Just listen to my suggestion…

Ora Kitsune and her cousin, Basho Kitsune, were going to spend their holiday in Cape Suzette, so they chose the way of travelling by plane. Everything was going to OK till the moment, when from unknown reasons plane crashed on the island called Spook Island. These two young foxes were the only ones who survived this crash (remained passengers and the plane crew were killed) and they wanted to survive every day in this strange and dangerous place. Suddenly Basho disappeared and Ora decided to find her cousin, but she didn’t realize that not only ghost animal demons live in this island, but also the group of the feminist extremists. When she hade after the hours of runaway, she fainted from being exhausted and starved. Mad Dog, one of the air pirates, who had to land there because of lack of benzin in his plane, noticed that girl and rescued her (not without the piece of fear in his heart). Later, they met up with each other and after the listening Ora’s story and her request about helping her in finding her cousin, Mad Dog agreed with it, but he said that she must listen to him in almost every situation, because he was her “sky pirates’ life guide and guru”. Ansd then adventure begins…

My idea is mix of adventure games + FPS with the dark atmosphere… XD

That’s why I wanted to play as the Mad Dog and / or my Oc, Ora Kitsune (believe me, she’s not Mary – Sue… ) ;)

Sounds cool! i can really see that happen and make an interesting level. The only problem is to link this to the main plot, which i still miss.

I hope you won't feel offended, but i would like the game to be centered on the main cast at Higher-For-Hire. Your idea sounds good but it doesn't sound very "Talespin-ish" with the deads, demons and such, and would work better as a "spin off"...i like Mad Dog though so don't worry about him appearing in the story (alongside Don Karnage and possible other Air Pirates)

Ann29 has offered to help me, and we're currently in touch to build a plot! She has written great fan fictions so I think we can write a good game plot!
But keep the ideas coming!
