Now that i've released two prototypes of the TaleSpin game and done programming the main game engines (which, i hope, prove that i CAN make this game and am MOTIVATED to do it!), i am starting the « real » work.
And so, i need help! ^^
Interested to contribute? Then please tell me what you'd like to do! Here's a list of everything i can think of at the moment :
Art
characters designs
aircrafts / ennemies designs and sprites
background rough sketches, coloring
characters dialogs sketches, coloring
story events sketches, coloring
game box art (cover)
game interface (options menu, ...)
Writers
review the storyline i have written so far
writing dialogs
Musics
compose musics / soundtrack
find sounds effects
find environment/background effects
Programming
Game Maker GML programming
Stuff anyone can do!
levels game design
suggesting ideas
look for reference pics (to help the artists)
spread the word! (make and post a video on Youtube, tell your friends on Facebook ...)
I can give you more details, just ask! ^^
Obviously, this game has a $0 budget, so i won't be able to offer anything except the fun and privilege to make an awesome game of an awesome series! (oh, and of course, your name will appear in the game credits :p)
Just one thing : i will be the « manager » of this project. I will be the one giving the instructions on what to do and who should do what. Doing an ambitious project like this on the internet isn't very easy, so i'll try to centralize and keep control of everything produced myself.
Whatever happens, this project is very dear to my heart (been dreaming about doing it for years!) so if i have to, i'll do everything myself! But having people offering help will make it possible to release the game much more quickly, and i'm sure you all can't wait to play it ^^ (myself included!)
Please reply and tell me what you can do! (refer to the list)

I like the sound of character designs (and maybe backgrounds..) but feel free to check out my gallery on DA to see what I would be best at. ^^ I'm no good at aircraft though. D:

Well, I'm not sure what I could do, but I do think that maybe you should consider the possibility of selecting characters. Each one could have distinct advantages. Baloo could pick up heavy boxes and throw them or move them easier. Kit could crawl through tight spaces like air vents. Rebecca could be faster moving than the others. I also would suggest adding a world map or some other level select so you can replay levels you already beat as other characters to find stuff you couldn't get when you beat it the first time.

I've considered your first idea (selecting characters), and i agree that it would be pretty cool, but it won't work because the game relies heavily on its scenario and storytelling. (eg : it wouldn't make sense to play Rebecca on a delivery if she's supposed to be at her desk!)
Another problem : playing Rebecca or Kit means making a whole new set of animations for them, and making the platforming animation of Baloo took me 2-3 months...(and it's not good enough yet!)
And it also means more testing necessary (different characters with different possibilities)
But re-playing levels will be possible, and i will add "time attack" so as to unlock more extras. And, MAYBE I'll offer the possibility to play other characters in some special stages (like bonus stages)

True, I guess it would be more challenging to create. If story is a big part of the game, maybe you should take an approach similar to what Sega did with Sonic Adventure; every character you play as has different goals, but they provide you with a different side to the same story. Kit's goals could involve Molly (Hide and Seek, safely escort her somewhere, etc.), Rebecca could be working to a strict schedule and has to accomplish her goals within a time limit for her levels, ect.
Anyway, I'll wish you the best of luck for now.
If you need any ideas on moves for characters, let me know. I was thinking about moves they could use just because I wondered how the characters would play like in the M.U.G.E.N. fighting game engine.

Not sure if you're checking in, but I found out about this project and checked out the videos. It's impressive work. I'd dig seeing this game project completed and released.
I'd also like to volunteer to help. TaleSpin is near and dear to my heart--far more than any other such show from my childhood--and I always thought this series deserved a video game that focused on the characters and good dialogue.
I can help in the following areas:
-Writing: I've written many short stories over the past five years. More mature content, mind you, but the challenge of writing story and dialogue for a TaleSpin game would be well met.
-Testing: I've worked in the video game industry for eight years, and most of that in game testing. I can help write the test scripts and execute them. This is a breeze if you're tracking design changes and keep all your design docs up to date.
-Marketing: I did all sorts of stuff in marketing. Manual design, web design, photoshop work, print stuff. I've also set up websites, which may be a good tool for you to rally all staff and contributors in one place. Perhaps a wiki?
Regardless, I hope the project's coming along well. You can also email me at subsane@gmail.com as well.

Hello! ^^ And sure! That would be awesome!
The project is going along, actually i have released a new prototype (first chapter) exclusively for the people working on the project, i'll send you the link!
Let me think what i can ask you. Might need some help for writing, sure.
I haven't got so much experience with game testing, except from making "debug rooms" and cheats. Usually i just play the game myself to check if everything works. Are you talking about unit testing?
As for marketing, that would be VERY useful! Yes, a wiki would be nice. Also, Youtube promo videos or such things...
Will this game require download for playing? (when finished)

It goes like this :
- For now i'm using Game Maker 8.1, and this only allows to make Windows exe (so downloadable only), but it works great, is well documented and is cheap.
- There's a new version, Game Maker Studios, which allows to make Windows exe but also Mac, Android, IOS and HTML5 versions. Problem is, i tried it and can't get it to run my game, it requires a lot of complex changes. HTML5 is very, VERY slow and requires more changes (how loadings are managed, asynchronous loadings for example). Also, GMS is very expensive and very recent, so it's difficult to get answers on my problems.
So, i have decided to stick to GM 8.1 for now, and when at least the first episode of the game will be released (probably in a year from now), i will reconsider if switching to GMS is possible. And if it is, then running the game on most platforms would be possible, including no download (HTML5).
I'm aware making a version runnable straight from the browser would be more successful; for now i think 90% people will still be able to run the game on their Windows.

Ok...This was supposed to be an exclusive prototype only for the staff working on the game, but i just can't resist to let everyone play it. So here's what's been done so far for Episode 1. It's all "work in progress" obviously!
Just extract the zip file and launch "Prototype2012_103".
This should give you a clearer view of how the game will play, even if with placeholder art and uncorrected bugs. (also don't worry, there will be more expressions for Rebecca!) This demo only has point & click adventure, but the final game will also have action (shoot'em up and platform levels)
Also, i announce that the game will be released in several episodes, instead of one full game, so that we can publicly release one episode soon. For now, the deadline for episode 1 is early 2013!
If you have some comments, ideas or anything, just reply!
Awesome beat version demo, my friend XD ButI've gotta one suggestion: the mouse "riding" when I go on the grocery :/

Hi there, Piquel. In my introduction topic, I saw that you were asking me for help to contribute for your talespin game. Well, as I said in before in questions of programming I can defend for myself in certain things. But maybe I can help you with some drawing, but the problem with me it's that I'm attending college (studying animation of course), and I don't post frequently. So my contribution with the game would be poor. Anyway I've read that you are still having trouble with the script or story for the game. Tell me exactly which points of the story that you had in mind, would be in the final product. I have to mention, that your idea of including kit's father as an antagonist would be an interesting turn of screw. And I have to tell you, that kit's father plot sounds similar to oliver twist. Some ideas are starting to flow to help you, with the aspect of kit sending an SOS message. Well that's all for now. I'll check this topic later.
And congratulations, you're doing a good work. Just an observation, try to improve Shere Khan's design I think it needs more work for the final product.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry to answer so late, seems like i skipped your message for some reason? Anyway, just wanted to post a little update so that everyone knows the game is still being worked on, it's a slow but steady progress.
To be realistic i think we'll have to push back the release of the first episode of the game to "Late 2013". Yeah, i know it's far! but believe me, it'll be worth the wait!!!
Currently i'm working on platform levels programming, i plan to release a demo video soon.
NB : Cyclone Blaze, can you be more precise on what's wrong with my Shere Khan's design?
