I'm not going to name any names, but I can't help but notice that users are entering the shoutbox just to express their sorrow over something that's bothering them. Clearly, as I quoted above, this is actually against the rules, yet mods fail to reinforce this rule (most of this seems to take place in the early morning hours for me, and there are never any mods on at that time. But sometimes I do see this happening when mods are present). I know, and I have, reported users for acting this way in the shoutbox, but I think this rule needs to be made more aware of. I think maybe it's time that a news was posted to remind users that AS isn't a place to come and talk about your personal problems.

Like you said, it seems to be taking place early hours when mods aren't on. I do remember seeing at least one of your reports as well. It may be indeed time to make a little reminder news about it. Hopefully it will help at least cut those messages back a little. Adding a message about it around the shout box may also be an option. I'll bring it up on the MB.

Indeed, a news, and maybe even a reminder in the shoubox is needed, as it just happened again (around 3:50AM EST). It wasn't as bad as last night (around the same time as this morning), but this incident was just a bit random and spamish.

You mean we may actually see a concerted effort to dissuade the shameless attention-seeking behavior which has been rampant on the shoutboxes for years now?

THAT would be a nice change. That, and maybe putting a stop to the very thinly-veiled, almost sexual role-play comments which often occur in the shared shoutbox (and have taken place in the shoutboxes for years as well)...those hug, cuddle, squeeze, tickle, etc. comments which are especially in constant use by a certain few members (who, for the sake of not stirring trouble, shall remain unnamed here...but every mod should know precisely whom I refer to). Especially when it is someone over the age of eighteen engaging in that behavior with someone UNDER the age of eighteen. The imprudence of such behavior (certainly on the part of the young adult) should be very plainly obvious.

Honestly I don't really go on the shout box anymore, I'm more behind the scenes these days, heh... But If you report it, I'll definitely take a look, either myself or another mod who knows the situation.

I'm not sure the rest of the staff sees these sexual-like of comments as a problem, unfortunately. The last report of mine you dealt with, which was handled by another mod previously, you told me to report any other such activity. The other moderator brushed it off as not being a problem. The staff needs to start following the written rules, rather than deal with a report on how they feel about it personally. Sure, not everything reported is a problem, but the comment I reported was a comment that would make most people go "uhhhh?"

And, to top it all off, one of the individuals in question, Draco, has been reported repeatedly...to many mods. He has a long history of reports in his file. And I happen to know he's been warned several times, and even had short bans thrown his way. And it seems of little consequence to him, because he certainly keeps doing it. I, frankly, am tired of reporting him when there are no firmer actions taken against him, and he clearly doesn't take any actions (which have been taken against him so far) seriously.

Steet has made a new topic line for the shouboxes which is visible on the top, to go along with the bottom one. I will add a reminder about the drama there, in each box. I've also been given news permission, so I'll be making up one about the issue as well. If you want to PM me any suggestions as to what I should add, feel free.

While we're on the subject of sexual messages, there have been a few select users who've been leaving sexual-like comments on each others profiles. This really needs to be stopped, as it has no place here on AS. Not to mention it could effect the activity on this site (not drastically, but it could drive users away).

Oh, and FYI, the topic-line only seems to be working on Balto Source.

I think I know precisely who Mighty is talking about. And they are, at the same time, abusing the smileys that have recently been added to the comments/shoutbox features on the sources. And it's become a real mess if you ask me. And definitely has to be stopped.

I do have to agree, I've noticed these problems too, mostly when people are RPing on the Animation Source shoutbox. I feel like the hug, cuddle, poke etc. comments are getting too frequent on there, and it should stop.

On the shared shoutboxes, I think I know who Mighty is talking about...and that he/she needs to be given a warning.
