Plague
The Plot
In the year 2063, everyone's worst fears were realized as World War III became a reality. Acts of terrorism and biowarfare became a part of most everyone's daily lives. Countries battled each other in a race to create the most deadly weapon and wipe out their opponents, a race that would signify death for the loser and a bittersweet victory for the winner.
A few years into the horrible war, a virus was released that basically turned people into zombies, reducing them to mere animal instinct. The virus continued to mutate and spread and an American laboratory called RIVUS offered the children of desperate parents refuge from it...in exchange for an exorbitant fee. What the parents and children didn't know was that this laboratory was the one who had released the virus in the first place.
RIVUS put the children into stasis pods and used many of them to perfect the virus, infecting them with different versions of it to test it's effectiveness. The virus soon became out of control, spreading to nearly every human across the globe. One scientist, Andrew Evans, realized that they were all on borrowed time and the human race would quickly become extinct if he didn't do something. He managed to engineer an inoculation against the virus and injected it into the children that had remained in stasis, not experimented upon.
Andrew Evans soon fell victim to the virus, as well as all but a rare few that were immune. Thirteen months passed, long enough to for the world to crumble as zombies took over. The laboratory shut down without any funds to keep it running, automatically releasing the inoculated children from stasis. With only vague memories of the virus ever happening in the first place, they must now find a way to survive in this hostile world while figuring out why they are magically immune to the virus. They must also find a way to save not only themselves, but the world around them. Will they succeed, or die trying?
Important Notes
~This story takes place 50 years in the future. That means technology is more advanced, which is why things such as stasis pods exist. However, in the face of a zombie apocalypse, most of the technology is non-functional or impractical. The technology that does still have a purpose is mainly solar- or battery-powered. Certain medical scanners (which scan the patient to provide a quick diagnosis) and things such as walkie-talkies can still be used for this reason, though they aren't necessarily easy to find.
~I would prefer the inoculated children to be in the age range of 10-16, but I'll probably allow exceptions if you run it by me first.
~Remember that these are kids who probably have little knowledge of fighting or survival skills. Please don't have them magically be a black-belt who can defeat zombies left and right without breaking a sweat. Giving them some fighting skill is okay, but don't overdo it. The same goes for knowing how to, for example, build a fire or hunt. At first, quite a bit of trying to survive will be trial and error and scavenging for leftover supplies.
~The setting is in New York, New York in the early to mid-fall. Some of the taller buildings (such as the Empire State Building) have been bombed and destroyed. There's a lot of rubble and wreckage, but a large portion of the other buildings remain standing. Most of the subway tunnels are also intact, though the subways themselves don't run.
~The "zombies" have no memory or judgement skills. They basically are violent, rabid animals now. The majority are infected with a mutated strand of the virus which gave them enhanced strength but an intense hatred of light (though they will face it if they are close to their prey). All zombies have pale skin with black patches and open sores, and their eyes are a milky white color. They can't see well and move poorly because of this, but have keen hearing. They are constantly hungry and it is rumored they can smell blood. They normally travel in small groups or alone. They can't reproduce, which is a blessing since their numbers are already so large.

My Character(s)
Name: Drew Madelyn Gray
Nickname(s): None
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Physical Description: She has dark brown hair cut in a short bob that goes to her chin. Her eyes are a lighter shade of brown bordering on amber, and light freckles dot the bridge of her nose and the tops of her cheeks. Her skin isn't exactly pale, but she isn't very well-tanned either, caught in between the two. She's the average height for her age and has a lithe, runner's body.
Personality: She trusts people easily, willingly giving them her loyalty and friendship. She always tries to be an optimist and comes across a bit naive because of this, but is very aware of the dangers and darkness in the world...she just tries not to focus on it. She is talkative and fairly easy-going, but internalizes a lot of the negative emotions she feels, not wanting to add to other people's burdens.
Backstory: Her mom died in childbirth and nobody knew who her father was, so Drew was raised by her Aunt Mary. Mary was a lawyer and had plenty of money in her bank account, and made sure that Drew was always cared for. She was an excellent person, patient and kind, that Drew loved to death and would do anything for. When RIVUS made the offer of safety from the virus, Mary didn't hesitate in spending everything they had to make sure Drew could be a part of it. Drew hesitated, reluctantly agreeing only when seeing how much it meant to her aunt.
Name: Alexander Michael Johnson
Nickname(s): Alex
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Physical Description: He has light blonde hair that is always messy and in a state of disorder. His eyes are a light shade of gray and his skin is pale, speaking of hours spent more often indoors than outdoors. He's a bit short and skinny for his age and wears wire-frame glasses.
Personality: He's quiet and doesn't open up about himself very much, preferring to instead figure out other people. He's pretty perceptive for his age, and enjoys puzzles and patterns. While not the most athletic, he tries to make up for it with stubborn persistence.
Backstory: His dad was an engineer and his mom stay-at-home. He was an only child and received all of their attention and encouragement. They pushed him to do things like chess club and math competitions, though he really preferred just to do things on his own. He loved them a lot and when the virus came he didn't want to go to RIVUS, but couldn't find a strong enough argument to convince them to let him stay instead.
