Scanned, this page is about the true story. Its the only page in the book about them,

the text next to Rasputin says, " ^ a rare photograph of the controversail "holy man," Grigori Efimovich Rasputin. He bewitched the Russian Aristocacy and exerted immense influence over the tsar through his ablility to control the effect of the tsarevich's* hemophillia."
(*By "tsarvich" it means Alexia, the heir.)

And the picture of the family is cut, sorry :( Here is the full "family picture", yes, I'm aware its a little different, but its the closet I personally have to the one in the book)

Hmm... I wonder if the Royal Family photo had any influence on the one in the movie?

I don't see a dog in the actual photo. Do you know if they really had one?

Most likely, and for the dog...they were very rich, its likely they had many childhood pets.

Hehe, true. I often did wonder why they never really mentioned anything about the dog in the portrait.
And it made me think when watching the movie in the beginning when Puka shows up if he was a ghost
of some sort cause of how randomly he appears and always seems to lead Anya on the right path.
Perhaps the spirit of the dog in the portrait. But as it seems it's all just a happy coincidence.

Edit, After reading "Nicholas and Alexandra" by RKM, Anastasia did have a dog, that was also shot during their murder. Forgot what kind though.
