This is a controversial topic which has already been debated ad nauseum in the community. But ultimately, the merit (or lack thereof) in making new sources comes down to what you presume the goal of Animation Source to be:
- Is it a social networking site, where the only real value comes down to activity in the shared shoutbox (or role-playing shoutboxes) and in fan submissions?
- Is it an informational resource where, regardless of fan contributions and activity in the shoutboxes (though those are nice too), having the information up and available to fans of the movies (or television series) anyway is a worthwhile expenditure of time and effort?
Members of the site (both active and inactive, and present as well as former) have fallen into one or the other camp with regard to the two ideologies expressed above. But it is important for all members of this site to remember that, for the site webmaster, steet, the relative degree of fan activity (in terms of shoutbox chatting and fan submissions) is secondary to the latter thought (listed above). And in at least that regard, he's right. I'm not trying to speak for him of course (and wouldn't care to), but he's been seen saying that several times, over the years, whenever anyone has complained about the question of how much activity or inactivity there is on Animation Source, and whether or not creating more sources is a good idea.
