I have seen a few renders of male characters made into female characters.
mostly spirit of course made into a mare for a person's fan character. Most are pretty good, really good. However i have a few pointers.

1.) change the eye shape if you can the mare's eyes in the film seem to be longer, thinner, like this symbol ~ and it's slightly tilted.

2.) If you can't change the eye completely always as lashes and a eyelid line, it makes it look feminine.

3.) Make the slope/bridge of the nose curved up slightly. the stallions in the film have straight noses, were as the mares noses are curved up slightly, and there nosterals are a bit slanted as well.

Do you see the difference between rain's nose and spirits?

4.) this isn't a must but i have noticed that the mare's jaw is a bit bigger than the stallions jaw in the movie as well this may or maynot help with your render.

anyway i hope this helps and i hope i put this is the right section.

I slightly agree with 1, 2, & a bit of 4.
Why this is a good tip you must take in fact the breed of the horse.
If someone is making an Arabian character render, having Rain's slanted *roman* nose would not be correct with the specifications for the breed.
You can use Esperanza's example, her nose was not slanted what so ever.
Basically make sure to look over the guidelines of the breed you want to make your character's render if you want to
seem smart xD or if you want to be anatomically correct (Like Me)
Anyways, good observation hun ;)

thanks, and it does very very slightly look like Esperanza has a small curve in her nose at the begining of the movie I always figure they got rid of it to show how she aged. Which brings up another tip for rendering females,

to show age most of the older female horses (esperanza) had lines under there eyes to show slight eye bags.

Also, the jaw thing is kinda more like human jaws. The male one is more like an L shape, while the female one is rounder. I think.
