Simplest and fastest way to recolour. No layers, no shading etc. I might post some more complicated recoloring tutorials later if anyone wants.

1. You have your image opened in Photoshop already? It's time to clean it up a little. Go to Filter>Blur>Smart blur
Image

2. Try not to blur it too much. Lines must be clean, but not faded. Play with Treshold untill it looks okay.
Image

3.When it's cleaned up, take your brush tool and draw your character's basic lighter&darker markings. Only those two colours! Don't pay attention to colours or other markings yet.
Image

4.When done, use wand or lasso tool and select one of those basic colours.
Image

5. Press Control+U. There shows a Hue/Saturation box. Select "colorize' and change the colour playing with Hue, Saturation and Lightness.
Image

6.Do the same with other colour.
Image

7.Use lasso tool for selecting markings, then open Hue/Saturation box again(by pressing Control+U) and change colours to whatever you want.
Image

8.You can draw some small markings yourself using Brush tool.
Image

9.Correct any mistakes using Brush tool.
Image

10.Now eyes. I left the original, yellow whites, but you can of course change them by our beloved Hue/Saturation box. I changed eye colour by green Brush with Color mode. You can lighten or darken eyes using brush with Soft Light mode.
Image

11.Ta-daah! Our image is done in 10 simple steps!

I also changed the expression, etc, cuz the lines got a little washed out...

Did you color it with Hue/Saturation box or by brush? Because when you do it by brush then lines may fade. and watch out when you use smart blur. You need to set Treshold properly(it depends on every image) to not let the lines fade.

I used the brush to outline the ares, and filled it in with the paintbucket... But they got washed out when I used the "hue/saturation" to change the color... Like they became lighter and only a darker shade of the color I changed it to...

You need to change all Hue, Saturation and Lightness to get the colour you wanted.

Nice job Mighty^^
