Cool clips. I'm still surprised there have never been any other animated film with mushing. (unless I'm mistaken) Who knows, maybe after Frozen, some other company will want to do another film in snowy settings but with animals :p

But I would love to see a film based upon the true happenings of the serum run.

These short film clips were taken at the Seppala cabin and the area located at Chatanika, Alaska (near Fairbanks) during the middle 1940's. After returning to the Fairbanks area on a permanent basis in 1932, Seppala started breeding Siberian Huskies to Malamutes. One of the reasons was that only seven dogs were allowed on a race team at that time. He thought it was unfair, as a small number of Siberians were at a disadvantage when it came to the larger native dogs, so he started the cross breeding to compensate for that. Notice that the adult dogs in the film clips are larger and heavier than Siberian Huskies. Seppala also had a personal preference for lighter colored dogs. Also notice a number of the dogs in the film clips that are light or white in color. This preference continued into the Bow Lake days.
Seppala and his wife, Constance, both left Alaska for Seattle, Washington during the very late part of 1946, but they did not travel together. And they did not bring their "daughter" with them, nor did they bring all of their belongings and equipment with them. They had left Fairbanks with a number of loose ends still pending. Sigrid Seppala left the Fairbanks area almost 10 years before Leonhard and Constance went to Seattle in late 1946, in order to continue her education, after graduating from the high school in Fairbanks in the mid-1930's. Leonhard went back to Fairbanks during the summer of 1947 to get the rest of his possessions and several dogs, who ended up at the Bow Lake kennel.
