There has been at least one report which indicates that none of the so-called "B team" dogs in Leonhard Seppala's kennel ever ran on a racing team. That account refers specifically to Balto and the other dogs who were left behind by Seppala during his leg of the serum run.
There's some physical evidence which contradicts one part of this.
A dog named Fox was one of those left behind in Seppala's kennel when he headed out in late January of 1925. This is the same dog who was a brother of Fritz, along with Nils and Pete. A photo of Victor Anderson's 1917 All Alaska Sweepstakes team shows Fritz and Fox in the co-leader positions. Nils and Pete are next in line behind them. Anderson handwrote the name of each dog in this photo on the photo itself. As required by AAS rules, a photo and the identity of each dog on the team had to be provided to the Nome Kennel Club prior to the race.
