Alright. I've been thinking about this for a while, and now I finally dare to post it. I know a good deal of you are going to hate the idea, but I really think it's something that needs to at least be considered. Ready? I think that all works--artwork, images, stories, characters, etc.--that are not related to the Source being posted to should not be allowed.Like, as an official rule. Why, you ask? Well, because it simply doesn't belong here.I know it's never been a rule before. Even in the "good old days", people posted unrelated stuff. The entire time I've been on BaltoSource, which will be 5 years come January, there's always been some unrelated stuff on the site. Of course, they didn't really belong here then, either, BUT, people ALSO posted a fair share of Balto art, and many of the OCs WERE actually Balto fancharacters, so it wasn't as big of a deal. But now, it's just gotten out of hand. There are FAR more "original" works on here than fanworks. Few people really care that this site was meant to be a FANsite and most just use it as a place to show off non-related stuff or, worse, to play the "character game"...and the excuse for many is simply that "it's ok to have non-Balto stuff here." But really, all it does is promote the wrong idea. Because of all this, new members are no longer joining for Balto, but rather to join the "character game" and all that other nonsense that they see on here. The thing is--these are FAN galleries on a BALTO site. It only makes sense that they should be there for BALTO FANworks. Then there's the idea of "it's a wolf and wolves are in Balto, so it's ok." But just because the picture of a species that appears in the movie does not at ALL automatically make it ok to post it in Balto FANart, because it's NOT fanart. That's like me going to a fansite for, say, Avatar and filling up the fanart board with my original human characters, then when someone comes up to me and asks "why are these posted here, they're not Avatar-related?" and I answer with "Nah, they're humans and Avatar has humans in it, so it's ok." What do you think the other person is going to say? Yup, that's right: "Doesn't matter, it's still not Avatar and this is the Avatar board. Put them in a different board." Well, it's the same thing here. Just because most members are so used to the non-related stuff that they don't even really think about it anymore doesn't at all make the non-related works belong in the fan sections. They simply don't belong. "Doesn't matter that it's the same species, it's still not Balto and this is a Balto site. Put them somewhere else."You don't have somewhere else to put them, you say? Sure you do. deviantART, for one, as has been said many-a-time. A basic account is free and easy to make. And for members who are too young/not allowed to get an account there, there actually is a section on AnimationSource where it IS ok to post non-related things, though unfortunately, said section is highly overlooked: general-fan-section-f47.htmlThose boards are made SPECIFICALLY for non-related works! And so, with that option available and the fact that the Sources are in fact meant to be fansites, I really think that we should stop allowing non-related works outside of those boards. Sorry I rambled so long, it was a tad hard to form my thoughts into words. I hope it makes sense. Please consider this idea, as I think AnimationSource really needs it. (And note, though I referred to BaltoSource specifically throughout it, it does refer to ALL the sites.) Thank you, --NattiKay

I agree completely as well. It's kinda annoying that because main characters are dogs and wolves, people think it's okay to uploas ANY canine works here, including foxes, coyotes etc. Let's see, other species that appeared in Balto were: gooses(birds), bears, mooses, humans... Now answer yourself, is it okay for me to post my human OCs here? Same with your unrelated wolves.

I have been thinking about this for awhile, mostly for one reason - I've been watching a program on the History channel, and heck, just today I was too lazy to change the channel and a program about dinosaurs came on. I swear, it's giving me goosebumps - I used to adore dinosaurs, had a whole set of Imaginext toys with moving parts. I'd loved to carry out hypothetical fights. (Nostalgia? I think so.) This is reawakening and I want to make a dinosaur - where?
I think this: There should be an "Other animated movies" hub, if possible. Maybe they could have a filter which documents animated movies? And if it doesn't have your movie, you could add it? Of course this may need moderated - I certainly don't think that a movie like Felidae has a place on the site, it's extremely inappropriate for children and could cause months of nightmares.(And that's how kitties are made!) Really - if someone had a character for Felidae, occationally someone might think, 'oh, that looks like a good movie! I'll look it up on YouTube...' NO! Don't do it! I enjoyed the plot and all, but it is NOT FOR CHILDREN. Same general concept for Watership Down to a lesser, more realistic degree.
But all in all, that sounds like an idea for me. You'd have to assign moderators for the filters, of course, but a site like that would be nice. I know I'd use it.

animation-source-project-details-and-suggestions-t27959.htmlHere you can give propositions for any new Animation sources you'd like to see. Quote: I want to make a dinosaur - where? So you want to make a (random) character just because you find the species cool, not a fan character. Animation Source is definitely not a place for this. As we always say - go post your unrelated stuff at Deviantart/FurAffinity and other sites. No one said you can't make your dinosaur character if you wish so, just don't desperately try to find ways to put them on fan sites they don't belong to.

This has been frowned upon before. Animation Source is a disaster in itself with the fact the webmaster could care less, the server can't seem to handle the load, the staff needs cleaning up. The last thing we need is another mess to deal with.

DeviantART. Just because you have a character doesn't mean that it has to have a page or drawings on any of the Sources regardless of the species--this includes unrelated wolves on BaltoSource, unrelated felines on LionKingSource, etc. So even if we DID wind up with an "other animated movies" Source, your original dinosaurs wouldn't belong there because they're not fancharacters. There was talk about a possible OC Source a while back, but it never progressed further than a debate/discussion.

Reason being is because there already is an OC source, except it's as you mentioned: DeviantArt (though admittedly I wish there were some place much cleaner and less hostile to post artwork). Quite honestly, I'm pretty much in agreement. Turning the focus back to fanworks and not original works would be a good thing.

...Of course, I forgot to mention that I meant a Land Before Time character.
And we also need to fix that "Many people replying to the same thing" issue...
