What is Sourcecast?

Sourcecast is the aptly named new podcast designed specifically for all of Animation Source’s users to enjoy! It will feature many things going on in the community, highlight news from the fans and the animation industry as a whole globally, and chat with chosen guest speakers from or related to the community. Originally Balto678's idea, then expanded on by Lux, I decided to pick up the mantle.

Updates!

May 2, 2011: Episode 9 is up!

April, 11, 2011: Episode 8 is out, along with some other cool stuff, check out our page to see!

November 1, 2010: Added Conay's e-mail form to the list of ways to contact us! If you're lazy and don't want to scroll down, click here to get to the e-mail form. It allows you to send mail to the Sourcecast Mailbag/e-mail address safely and securely, should you prefer not to use your actual e-mail account to do so. It can be bookmarked for easy access. Just please remember to include your Animation Source username in the slot that is made for it! Thanks again, Conay!
Conay wrote:
In conjunction with that, the reason you type your email address is so that you can gain a copy of the email yourself. It also helps the servers validate the email.
So, again, we won't see it and it should help you keep your privacy :)

October 28, 2010: 6th episode is finished and has been posted! Go listen!

September 2, 2010: 4th episode is up! Go listen naow!

April 5, 2010: The third episode of Sourcecast, titled "This Foxish Nonsense," has been released!

Where To Find Us

Our E-mail/Mailbag: sourcecast@gmail.com
Another way to send stuff to the Mailbag: Conay's Mailbag Form, in case you'd rather not use your e-mail address, which we perfectly understand.
Mypodcast - Streaming all episodes, no download necessary to listen
Youtube - Episodes are cut into sections. Uploading here takes a little longer than other locations.
Official Website – Sill not finished! Stay tuned for updates!
iTunes - You must have downloaded iTunes to access it. Once you have, you can subscribe and each new episode will be automatically downloaded to your iTunes account when it becomes available. You may also download individual episodes. If you don't use the link provided and instead just search for us, be forewarned - there are 2-3 podcasts known as Sourcecast. Ours is, quite obviously, the one with our logo, and the one that is tagged as "clean" rather than "explicit". We will never produce an explicit podcast.
ZENCast
ZENCast Orangizer - Subscribe to the Sourcecast by inputting the RSS URL into the program.
Zune - Awaiting for approval.

How To Get Involved

We are still taking applications for some positions, especially non-speaking roles. If you’re interested in becoming a host on the actual podcast, you MUST fill out the application below. If you’d like to submit graphics or other work, just send in some examples to our e-mail address. The application may be pmed to Aniu, or e-mailed to the Sourcecast e-mail.

  • Animation Source Username:
  • Position you'd like to help with (Anchor/DJ, software and editing, graphics design, music, etc.):
  • Why would you like to fill this position:
  • Why do you think you are qualified for it and what skills do you have that will help you aid Sourcecast:
  • Will you try to be able to make it to Sourcecast recordings and pre-recording meetings:
  • What other activities (in school and otherwise) are you involved in which may interfere with Sourcecast:
  • Can you be available to record (most times, but not all) on short notice:
  • Do you have Skype or MSN/Yahoo instant messenger:
  • What is the best way to get in contact with you, if not through pm on Animation Source:
  • What time zone do you live in (or general area/country region, if you don't know. This will ONLY be used for coordinating meeting and recording times):
  • What is your weekly schedule like:
  • How would you describe yourself (in roughly 5 sentences):

Hosts will be chosen based on how well they fit the project, not by how early they managed to get their forms in.
It is important that you correctly fill in the subject line of an email or PM. The correct format is Application - [ENTER USERNAME].

The Mailbag

The second way to get involved with the Sourcecast is by sending emails or PMs to the Mailbag. This is one of the biggest ways to get involved because what you send in has a large chance of being said on the show. You can send virtually anything to be read. Mind you though, that the Mailbag is moderated before every recording of the show, so any email that either breaks the established forum and site rules or doesn't relate to Animation Source will not be read.

The Mailbag will feature several different sections:
Questions - Ask a question and we'll try to answer it as a group or individually.
Comments - Like the show? Dislike the show? Make a comment.
Suggestions - Got an idea for all to hear? Make a Suggestion. Hear our opinions.
Member Stories - Share events that have happened to you from the Animation Source Site and Forums
"Ask a Mod/Sourcecaster" - Even more questions, but aimed specifically at one. Expect strange answers!
ShoutOUT! - Give a shoutout to all you friends and the Animation Source community!

It is important that you correctly fill in the subject line of an email or PM. The correct format is Mailbag - [ENTER SECTION(S)]. If you have something for more than one section, put both into the same email and put both titles in the subject line.

Example:
Mailbag - Comments
Mailbag - Suggestions, Questions

Please send your email to:
sourcecast@gmail.com, or use this link to send us an e-mail without logging onto your account,
or PM to:
Rusty the Fox, Swords of the Wolves, Aniu Caelestis
Skulblaka_Shur'tugal

Tools Of The Trade

Skype – For voice chatting and conferencing.
Pamela Call Recorder – Recording the podcast
PrettyMay Call Recorder - Secondary recorder for when Pamela fails
Audacity – Editing the podcast, and occasionally for recording
Windows Movie Maker – For converting audio files into video files. Will be used for future archiving on Youtube.

Seems like a good idea, although I probably won't get involved (for obvious reasons!)

Well, it'll be at least another week before I can put up an application for all those interested in helping out. And then I might take another week to wait for applications to come in and review them. So, at minimum, two weeks. However, it won't hurt for anyone who is interested to let me know ahead of time, even though I don't have an application. And if you don't want to actually be in the podcast but want to help me with the background work, you really don't need to apply. Just send along suggestions and such to my pm box.

I'd love to be re-involved with this =) I have enough time to devote to a Sourcecast now, so...

Count me in!

And I'm not interested in running the show unless you want/need a co-leader. DJ-ing is fun anyway x]

And I can do the editing to make it seem like we're in a professional studio with my software, so we're covered on that end.

Awesome! I was hoping I'd get a reply from you, I just didn't want to send it all to you right off the bat because I didn't know how your schedule was looking. Good to have you again, Lux! <3

Just in case none of you knew what Mugglecast was before, and I'm sure some of you don't, or most of you, here's a link to the website and some of the latest episodes. http://www.mugglenet.com/mugglecast/ind ... isodes.php You do not have to download them - click the On Air Listen Now! button to listen to several of the latest episodes they have that are available for streaming. If you're going to listen to one, I'd recommend 179, because 180 is a "mini-sode" which doesn't follow their usual format and doesn't have all the usual anchors/DJs.

Also! Sourcecast has a new e-mail address! Yay! sourcecast@gmail.com

Working on getting the sample I made earlier up. It's fighting with me >.>

*EDIT* Here it is! The template/starter version of the podcast. Mostly just me messing around with Audacity and sounding lame because I was tired and fighting with yahoo, iTunes, and several other things >.> http://sourcecast.mypodcast.com/ Also, no download is necessary to play it. It streams from the hosting website. However, you can download it, if you wish.

Extra things we need now:

-Graphic/icon of some sort eventually (just used the old Balto Source one for now)
-Helpers! If you're interested in helping, fill out the form below after listening to the podcast.

  • Animation Source Username:
  • Name or Nickname you want to be called:

This can either be pmed directly to me, or you can e-mail it to the Sourcecast e-mail account. I'll start picking project members soon to keep the anticipation down, but participants will be chosen based on how well they fit the project, not by if they managed to get their form in early.

I'm listening to the trial run just posted in the BS shout box. As far as a more rock-sounding version of "Reach For The Light" in the intro, I know some people on here who could likely do such a song. Kiko The Freako and Of Wolfdog And Man are both guitarists (Wolfdog, unfortunately, had to sell his electric guitar(s) and now only has an acoustic), and I of course play bass. And Kaisho is a drummer, so would it be alright if I asked them about doing such a song as a potential intro? And dpstq knows how to post such podcasts on the web, as he did much of the work in that area with a series of fan commentaries on the three Balto movies as well as an interview Kaisho and Kiko had with Phil Weinstein. If you need anyone to help in the latter field, dpstq would certainly be a valuable asset.

Yeah, that'd be awesome! And of course, you guys can get creative if you think you decide you want to try and compose a new theme altogether, since Animation Source isn't just Balto Source anymore.

I've got a pretty good way to get the podcasts up on the web for now, but hold that thought. I'll probably still end up needing that help from dpstq sometime in the future.

I listened to the first episode, and I really liked it! I know it was only a preview, but I did enjoy it. One question: what are the "guests" supposed to do?

Well, depending on what they're there for, and what they've done, it'll mostly be a sort of interview Question and Answer sort of deal, where they'll talk about projects they've been working on. For instance, one week we may try to pull a popular fanfic author on to talk about his fics, or a fan artist. We could try to get important people in each fandom, and even officials who were involved in the creation of the animated work (like Phil Weinstein) but, more than likely for now we won't get anybody super famous :) I'll mostly just be for entertainment, like this podcast is supposed to be. We'll probably even start taking some fan requests for guest speakers occasionally. But we won't have a guest speaker for every podcast (and especially not the very first one!).

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSourcecast

Youtube account, for archiving old Sourcecasts and possibly streaming new ones, since I believe the host I'm with now only allows 100MB of use. Only problem with youtube is that longer episodes will have to be broken into pieces roughly 10 minutes long. Working on getting a hulu account as well (and maybe another...)

EDIT: http://sourcecast.webs.com/

The website...that is not finished at all. I don't know if it will serve further use later or not. We'll see.

Quick question. I would be willing to help out with making some graphics, but what types of graphics? Banners? Logos?

I'd love to join in on this! I don't know if I could do it regularly, being in college and all, but I'll fill out the form and send it to you, anyway. ^^ I'm excited!
