Wings of Change could EASILY have excluded Stella without affecting the storyline. As a storyteller, I know that if a character doesn't have a purpose, then it's nothing more than filler. That's all Stella was in Wings of Change: filler. Something that was there needlessly, just to extend the runtime.

Well Stella brings some factors into the story that either tie in with or foreshadow other events.

She makes Boris reveal to Balto that he's afraid of flying, and since this is Balto's dream he tries to help Boris. This just sort of ties into the "everything flies" theme basically, and it brings up some comedic scenes for the film at least.

We also get to see some character development in Stella, therefore she is not a character without purpose.
We see her suffering from the guilt of getting Boris trapped in the bush plane, and we see her decide to go with Balto and the others to rescue him, as well as when she "spills the beans" so-to-speak and confesses her affection for Boris along with what she did to him.

She prompts expansion of the film's theme and has a character arc.
Therefore, Stella is not a useless character like everyone thinks.

What character development does Stella have? She comes to Nome and immediately starts hitting on Boris. She only chases him onto the plane because she's pissed at him for lying to her about his fear of heights. Not really development--just the angry side of her character.
And don't start about how she regrets her actions before Boris is saved from freezing to death. She always liked him--it was just hidden under her anger for half the movie.

At the end of the day that all you can say. That's stella in a nutshell.

Again...this is a matter of opinion. Making it clear (both of you) that this is your analysis and opinion of the character is far less liable to create arguments than what you both have done.

I don't really see any arguments within the past several posts. Therefore I think it's pretty obvious that that's my opinion, not to mention that Alkan was agreeing with me.

I think you will observe that I said that such views are "far less liable to create arguments", rather than "have created arguments" (even though, all over the Balto fandom, they most definitely have).

Context, Origamist. Context. It is there. Why do so many people on this site have such a tragically-difficult time interpreting actual context instead of jumping to wild, fanciful (and inaccurate) conclusions?

Anything is liable to create arguments. Whether it does or not--that's the actual issue.
So until an agument starts about Stella's "character changes," I don't think it really matters all that much.

Give me a break, Origamist. We've all already been down this road. This TOPIC is a running argument about the question of the character.

The topic isn't an argument, it's just asking for opinions. It's the members' fault if any arguments start, which I'm trying not to do here.

You haven't read the various posts then...or understood the underlying context of each.

You inferred that I was referring to the whole thing as an argument. I did not. But there are argumentative posts in here, and the subject matter itself sparks arguments in the fandom.

If we BOTH don't stop this particular little discussion NOW, it will surely turn into one, because you made the inference. Time to get back on topic and leave this ALONE.

Agreed, and I will admit I've argued for both sides in this topic. But honestly, I really don't mind her, regardless of what faults she may have.
Personally I liked seeing her save Boris. It showed that she's capable of redeeming herself.

Stella was okay. She was a little funny. She was weird, though.
