Hey guys, Six here^^

People who follow my characters or my universe might know of this lioness named Hali, who is the main villain in my story. Taking the form of a dangerous spirit after her death, she exists in many places at once, destroying minds and getting other people to do her dirty work for her. She's also responsible for Scar's insanity.

Seriously, it's one thing to be jealous of your brother because he gets so much more recognition than you. I know that feeling. But it takes an external source to really set things off, to the point where you kill him!

So that got me thinking, what makes an ideal villain for a story? Of course, the basic things are:
Critically insane (Check)
Manipulative (Check)
Evil looking (Check)
Smooth talking (Check)
Overpowered by a thirst for power (Check), etc

But what got me really thinking is, what really makes a villain good enough that you start rooting for him? What is your ideal villain in your own minds, guys? Come on, let's discuss!

Hmm... this is a good question. I think a villain would have to have a turning point in their back story or a motivation, which has a bad outcome. I think good villain has to either be unexpected, or so villainous so there is no inbetween. They must also look the part, but I've seen your design and I think it is amazing! I hope this helps!

I pretty much agree with Lionobsession on that one. A good villain to me is one that has a tragick event or something like that which causes them to "turn bad" and become those bitter and hate-filled villains who just want to make the worl suffer, because they've suffrered.

I believe that the greatest villains are the ones who have nothing left to lose and everything to prove. Desperation can drive you to unspeakable ends - and if you have nothing left that you can possibly lose, no one you care about - what then? Your hero's only real choice is to use force or just be good enough to talk them back, which is highly unlikely. Emotional means - that has no effect because the villain won't have anything left to be attached to.
