What's your opinion on it? What are your expectations? To be honest I don't think I'll be much interested, considering this is a Disney Junior series (so aimed at toddlers), and this fact alone is a big mistake from Disney to me. The same way they made Mickey & the gang into a Disney Junior series, giving the image that "Mickey & Donald are for toddlers" to the general public.
BUT, at least they made a really good choice by making this is a 2D traditional animation series! (apparently, from the first visuals)

Honestly, it's not that exciting for me, since it's a Disney Junior show and aimed for a younger audience. I wish they somehow could have kept the show like The Lion King, not just for younger kids, so it could be more of a family show. The colors for the main characters are a little weird as well (and the patterns), but since it is a Disney Junior show, I'll try not to be that upset xD I don't have high hopes for the show, to be honest, but I too am glad that they kept the traditional 2D animation.
Going more detail into the character designs, I do like the color scheme they picked for Kion. You can just tell he's going to take after his father (trouble and all xD) by his appearance, and just how Disney portrays the character in pictures. Something I don't really like about his design...the lion mark he has on his left shoulder, it's kind of unrealistic for The Lion King. His original design had a paw print on his left shoulder instead of a lion mark, which I was a little more understanding with that (who knows, it could have been a birthmark).
So the only thing I really like what Disney did with this show (so far) is the 2D animation they decided to do.

So, you agree more or less with me
Interesting to see they're recruiting in western companies for it! I think they'd produce it overseas. And also interesting that they still use Toon Boom (the software they used on the Balto sequels, for example)

Although I do have to say, a TV show that isn't focused and Timon and Pumbaa, and has lions in it will be much more interesting, so they may not even mess this up (although, again, making this a family TV show would have been much better).
Another thing that is a concern of mine is portraying the original characters right, such as Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, etc., personality wise and how they look.
Okay...where is Kovu? If Kiara is all grown up and if this is after TLK2 (which would probably make the most sense), then he should be in the TV show.

Exactly. I hope they won't ruin TLK characters xD
And I also wonder if it's going to feature Kovu and what timeline it's exactly going to be. They even confirmed Mufasa's appearance (I wonder if it will be ghost or flashback), but there's no word about Kovu.

I think it's unfortunate how Disney, and probably other animation studios, are making cartoons only for very young children anymore. Don't they think adults and older children may wan to watch this series? Because anything new and modern, that I've seen, even the modern Sesame Street, is a pain to watch.

I'm hoping they will include Kovu, but so far it doesn't sound like it. Don't mess this up Disney and make the TLK family tree even more confusing xD

I don't think they'll focus that much on the established characters. Putting Kovu/Kiara into it may be very confusing for the audience, who may not even have seen the original film...

Still, I think they should at least try to get the original TLK characters right, even if they just show up for a minute.

yeah, after a decade of no TLK stuff after the timon and Pumbaa movie.. they're doing something new after all..
I guess the question of whether simba had a son is canon now..
as for Kovu and them .. well it could be an alternate universe thing.. or maybe Simba finally exiled Kovu and the others and is secretly making Kion king :p ( just not stating the title) .. It sounds kion and the others are just the pridelanders security squad while Kiara might do the ruling maybe *shrugs*..
I guess don't till you try it.. I guess.. though I'm sure they're just banking on series like Jake and the neverland pirates and Sofia the first..

I don't think so, but we'll just have to wait until all of the voice actors are announced. I mean, no Kovu would be kind of...ehm, how do I phrase it, confusing xD (Unless they explain why there was no Kovu). Even if he just appeared for a second on screen, that would be perfectly fine with me.

Once this is told that this is a show on Disney Junior, I'm keeping my expectations low, but personally, I hope they don't make it something like Dora or some other shows that tend to be "interactive".
I've always disliked those sorts of things, even when I was a kid, and feel like it'd destroy the overall feel of the series. As it is, Lion King has a very low likability by many people, who feel like it's a movie series aimed towards kids and it's termed as a "kids' movie", when it is actually more family. I mean, it shows many issues that are not shown in actual kiddie movies, and to me, they make the movies all the more relatable.
Making a show based off Lion King is never a bad idea, but to put it on Disney Junior? I'm not so happy with that decision. I'd rather they put it on Disney XD or Disney Channel or something.

Hey now, Gravity Falls is a Disney cartoon, and is getting acclaim from critics and audiences, young and old.
Disney seems to be handling IP's much better than 5 years ago. Star Wars and Marvel are handled with such grace that I'm sure they wouldn't put something truly awful out there as a spinoff to their second highest grossing animated film of all time, especially with Lassiter despising the Disney sequels era.

Hey, I'm not sure if any of you have seen this clip yet... but there's new information about "The Lion Guard" out now!
Here's a nice minute-long clip with Kion [which we now know the official pronunciation of!] and some hyenas being... kid-friendly hyenas:
Also, The Rotoscopers posted some info about the voice cast - a couple of the original cast will be returning [namely James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Ernie Sabella as Pumbaa], Timon gets his "Timon and Pumbaa TV" voice back [Kevin Schon - aka Muk and Luk from the Balto sequels], and the new characters seem to be voiced by actual little kids [I like little kid characters sounding like actual kids. Good job!]. Simba and Nala have the voices of Rob Lowe and Gabrielle Union, respectively, but there's no word on the rest of the cast [like Kiara, who is supposed to make an appearance; hopefully this means Kovu will too!].
Here's the info from the YouTube video:
Quote:
The epic storytelling of Disney's "The Lion King" continues with "The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar," a primetime television movie event premiering in November on Disney Channel. The movie follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. The movie is a precursor to "The Lion Guard" television series, premiering in early 2016 on Disney Channels and Disney Junior channels around the globe.
James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella reprise their roles from "The Lion King" as Mufasa and Pumbaa, respectively, alongside Rob Lowe ("The Grinder") as Simba and Gabrielle Union ("Being Mary Jane") as Nala. Max Charles ("The Strain") stars as Kion. The voice cast also includes Joshua Rush ("The Adventures of Puss in Boots") as Kion's best friend Bunga, a fearless honey badger; Atticus Shaffer ("The Middle") as Ono, an intellectual egret; Diamond White ("Sofia the First") as Fuli, a confident cheetah; and Dusan Brown ("Blaze and the Monster Machines") as Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo.
Finally, a new group shot of Kion's band of friends.
I think the designs for Fuli is a bit much, but I like the others better. I can't wait to see how the returning cast looks!
The clip does look very promising, I'm excited to see the movie now! Also, there was a news posted recently on this with some more information on the voice actors:
Just curious to know if anyone else noticed the identical Kion lion mark on Fuli's shoulder in Juuchan's last picture? I don't know if she has that mark because she's part of the lion guard or what. Although it doesn't look like the others have a mark (perhaps it's because it's on their other shoulder, but I would think that they would have made the marks visible on the rest of the lion guard as well). Or it may have been a mistake.
