Okay I really doubt that anyone's done this topic yet.
In the "Taking You Home" scene in "Balto: Wolf Quest", we get to see all six of Balto and Jenna's children. Four of them are basically spitting images of Jenna, but then there is Aleu and one other strikingly different pup. This pup is darker-colored than the other red ones, and has different features as well.
I'm curious to know what was the point during that film to point out another different-looking pup in Balto and Jenna's litter when we don't get to learn about them.
Was this meant to foreshadow another upcoming Balto sequel after Wolf Quest that covers his story? Did the creators of Wolf Quest already know that they were going to do a third Balto film?
And if so, was this other different-looking pup a very early design of Kodi?

I highly doubt it. Kodi was probably the Jenna-looking pup that played with Aleu in the box, not the red-faced one. It was pretty random.

While there is no hard evidence of this, it fits...given the way the individual puppies were adopted, and some minor physical attributes in the puppy who played with Aleu near the end of that scene. The only other puppy with similar markings and coloration to Kodi was Saba. And though only Saba was named (among the two) in Balto 2, and Kodi didn't get his name until the second sequel, the puppy that played with Aleu had brown eyes. Saba had blue eyes, as shown clearly when she asked Balto "papa, are you gonna get a human too?"...she having been one of only three pups not only named, but also having been given speaking lines...the other two being Dingo and Aleu. And we know that Dingo was not only a darker shade of red than the other pups (except the red-faced one, who has the same coloration as Dingo), but he was the first puppy to be adopted. In actuality, only three of them are "spitting images" of Jenna in terms of markings and coloration: Dingo, Saba and Kodi. And we already have defined that Dingo is actually a darker shade of red than Jenna and all the other red pups except the red-faced one. Neither the other unnamed pup (the red "Aleu clone" with the red bar on his muzzle), nor Aleu herself, look anything like Jenna. In fact, their markings (and Aleu's coloration) conform far more closely to Balto. I did an article and forum post on this once. I will again. It's actually very easy to identify each puppy if one is meticulous and careful about it. Allowing for the following facts: - Kodi does not get a name until Balto 3: Wings of Change;
- Each of the three pups who are named in Balto 2: Wolf Quest are listed, as is common practice in the film industry when laying out credits at the end of a movie, in order of which character speaks. And they are listed thus: Aleu, Dingo and Saba. In the adoption scene, Aleu speaks first by apologizing to Balto for howling; Dingo speaks second in exclaiming "I can't wait to get a human, so I can chew on their socks!" And Saba speaks third, when she asks Balto "papa, are you gonna get a human too?";
- The red "Aleu clone" (whom I often refer to as the "red bar-nosed pup") and the dark red-faced pup never, ever receive names in either of the sequels, and never speak. We don't know their gender nor their names. Only fans have ever attempted to name them and give them gender (the red Aleu clone is often mistakenly identified as Dingo, which is totally inaccurate; that pup is usually thought of, by fans, as being male. One of the most popular and often mistakenly thought of as official names of the dark red-faced pup is Kiona, which is a character that was created by CatWhoHas14Tails as her own particular grown-up version of that pup. In any case, that pup is usually thought of, by fans, as being female).

^ THIS. Also [sorta off-topic... but not really], I think the "which pup was Kodi" topic was discussed often in articles... and I'm surprised by the fact that new members still make these. Even I wrote a couple of articles about the subject... yet STILL it seems like no one gets it. REALLY? You guys must be kidding me. I'm sure it's mainly a bunch of air-headed newbies, but STILL... if it's been written about before, there's no need to write it again, especially when the few good articles state the SAME D*MN FACTS. Get it in your heads, people. And to be honest with you, JC, my fan-version of those non-speaking pups are the opposite genders of what you say fans think they are. No offense to Cat, but I HATE that people think her version of the dark pup [AKA "Kiona"] is officially named and whatever. I know she does a good job with developing her characters, but they AREN'T and NEVER WILL BE OFFICIAL, if only because there won't be any more movies. Fans: Just deal with it. ...Sorry for the rant. Now, on to that question! Boltro: To answer your question, JC actually hit it head-on. And as a fan who actually transcribed and screencapped the whole film, I should know that his facts are true. I'm not sure why they focused on another pup for a couple of scenes, but at least the litter did have some variety... somewhat. It would have been nice to learn what happened next to that pup, but eh... I think the fandom has that under control. - Juuchan17
