A flash of red hair flew down the steps and toward the kitchen table, grabbing a single piece of toast before returning speedily from whence it came. A brunette man with glasses sat looking at his newspaper and paid no heed to the mild disturbance, except to shout after it about being late again. The red-head closed her door, through off the blue robe she'd been wearing only minutes before and threw on some jean and a purple tank, with a gray plaid long-sleeved, button-up t-shirt. She groaned when she realized that in all of her rush, she'd manage to widen the holes that were already in the knees of the jeans; now they weren't quite as centered as she had wanted them.
Again she was down the stairs in only a blur of motion, and was lacing her black and white chucks up with as much speed as she could muster.
"Dare, you ready yet? We've gotta go!" she shouted in no general direction.
At that moment, her mother walked by, shaking her head in exasperation. She quickly handed her some money for lunch and again there was chastising about being late. Wasn't that the story of her life? The girl frowned and took the money grudgingly. 'Yet again, it's our first proper day of school in a new town and all the kids are immediately going to spot us. Well, at least it's a fairly ordinary day for us.' Devin looked around for her backpack and found it resting against the steps where she'd left it. She grabbed it and waited for her brother, while their mother walked out to the car and left. What was taking him so long?

Griffin got up from his messy bed and stretched his back. As he looked out at the morning sun he grunted. Even with this neckalace to prevent him from burning into ash on direct contact, the sun still bothered his eyes. His kind tended to be very sensitive to sunlight, whether he liked it or not. But a certain thought occured to him. He could maybe go to school. Hah! He thought. At first it seemed like a very funny thought, but as he mulled it over some more, it didn't seem as ridiculous anymore.
Hm... he thought after a few more minutes. Going to school may give me a chance to mingle... get to know people... A sarcastic 'voice' kept saying things in his brain related to these thoughts. And if that doesn't work out I can always just kill someone coming home from the darned place. The voice laughed. He got dressed up in a bluish black v-cut shirt and some dark jeans. The shoes? He just put on one of the new pairs that were in the closet. Black convers. He walked out the door and breathed in the air.
And with all that, he started his steady walk to high school, a place he hadn't visited in more than a century.

Outside the main office, Rose chewed at her thumb nail as she sat patiently on the uncomfortable wood bench that was usually reserved for trouble students. The principal had kindly asked Rose if she would show the new students around. Being the good student counsel member that she was, Rose had to accept.
Her light blue flip-flop slipped off her small foot as she tapped it in slight aggrevation. It was only ten minutes until the late bell would ring, and the two siblings, Devin and Darius, had yet to show up. Rose promised to help them to thier classes since she apparently had almost the same scheduale as the two of them, but if they didn't show up, she'd be late for homeroom with no good excuse. To pass the time, Rose began to chip off what little dark red paint was still on her fingernails. Boredom often led to this habit, and she had already picked at the hole in her jeans to make it twice as gaping as it was supposed to be and the end of her plaid button-up shirt was tattered and separating into individual threads. If she couldn't find something to do with her hands soon, her chocolate brown tank would be in shreds as well. At least she had put her sun-glasses down before accidently snapping them.
The hand on the clock moved closer and closer to the eight, but Rose couldn't drag her blue eyes away from it unless it was to glance around the hallway to spot the two people she was waiting for. Of course, though, they were never there.

Griffin strutted across the sidewalk, pretty proud of himself at the moment. After all, he was a creature that was supposed to be doomed to being indoors during the day, but here he was walking around like if he was human. Ugh. Human. That word brought too many bad memories. Even if not all of the remembrences were bad, in reality, the good ones had turned bad either way so it didn't really matter what they were like at first. Griffin rubbed the memories off and continued walking. After a few more minutes, he found himself at the nearest high school. He snickered to himself as he entered. While walking through the office door, he noticed a girl there who seemed quite agitated. But in order to stay 'mysterious' (a tactic he used to get people to approach him), he just walked by her, paying no attention. He went up to the office lady and smiled one of his sly smiles. "Hey there..." he said with the same slyness in his smile. "I would like to apply for the school. See... I'm new to the town and-"
The desk lady took no time hesitating to get him an application. After about a minute or so, he was done filling it out. After that he was told he could follow the girl who went by 'Rose'. She would be able to show him around. He gave another sly grin to the desk lady and chuckled slightly. "Hey are you... uh... Rose?" he asked the nervous girl with fake inquiry.

Rose was tempted to just leave the two siblings to figure things out on their own, but just before she stood up a blond boy passed her as he went into the main office. His face was unfamiliar to Rose, which was very strange since she knew pratically everyone in town. The shock was enough to cause Rose to continue sitting on the bench, pondering the strange boy who, she had to admit, was far better looking than most the guys at school.
Entering her own mind, Rose was lost to the world around her as she searched her memory for his face. For some reason, the only picture that come into her head was of him walking down the street in pitch blackness. Rose wasn't even sure if the memory was real, but she dwelled on it, hoping that a name would suddenly pop into her head.
Rose didn't notice the boy come back out again, and she jumped when she heard his voice coming from right beside her. She quickly turned her head and became lost in icy blue irises that she swore were looking straight into her soul. Rose swallowed her unease and tried to recall what he had just asked her. "Um, yeah. Yes. I'm... I'm Rose," she managed to stumble out. She could hear her voice shaking and had to gather as much calmness as she could before going on in a somewhat normal tone. "If you don't mind me asking, who exactly are you?"

Darius eyes widened as he heard his sister call his name. Dang it! He would be late again! Why didn't anyone ever wake him up earlier? It was a good thing that he normally slept in his clothes, all he really had to do was brush his teeth and slap on some deoderant before leaving. He ran out, his tousled, dusty brown hair flopping annoyingly over his eyes. He ignored it, and grabbed his bag, along with a piece of toast as an after thought. He ran out the door, and became immediatly apologetic once inside the car.
"Sorry, Devin!" he said, a sheepish grin lingering on his lips. "I slept in a bit late..."
To anyone else, he would say his alarm clock broke, just to make him seem more responsible. The truth was, this was his normal morning routine. He counted on Devin to wake him up, he didn't even have an alarm on his digital watch. A few seconds passed without the car moving, even though the engine was grumbling, a sure sign that it was started. "Well, don't stand around, drive already!"

As soon as Darius jumped in their shared car, she floored the gas pedal and they raced off to the school. The girl was frantic, and almost ended up hitting an older lady who'd tried to cross the street without looking. After muttering something rude under her breath, she sped on. She was so worried about them running late that she didn't bother to correct it when she parked somewhat crookedly in the spot she'd found, and she quickly snatched her back from the back seat and dashed with him inside. They'd arrive outside the office just as Rose was about to leave them.
"Sorry!" she called out, huffing and puffing. Devin was not a sprinter.
She could only assume that the girl outside the office was the one who was supposed to be showing them to their classes, but who was the other stranger that was with her? He was intriguing, almost as though he weren't really trying to be. Devin glanced back, waiting for Darius to catch up, even though he was only a few paces behind her and eventually her breathing returned to normal.

Griffin tilted his head just slightly, barely noticable. He then proceeded to widen his smile a bit. Looking into her eyes, he tried to contemplate what to answer. Should he tell the truth? Lie? It'd be safer to lie... But then again, was he ever the type who wasn't for danger? As he spoke up in reply, you could see from his tone that the girl's stuttering didn't even bother him. "So you are? Hm.. Rose is a beautiful name." He laughed softly. After a breif pause, he continued, "Me? My name is Griffin Gold. I'm kinda new here. I was hoping you could show me around?"
Just then, another figure came rushing through the hallway. Griffin could hear Devin sprinting their way even before she had entered the school. Darn... he thought. For some reason, despite the fact he was using just a tint of charm to lure her in, he liked this girl Rose. He didn't even want to compel her. It was a weird feeling. He'd never felt that way before. Usually, he'd compel any innocent human, kill them, feed off of them, and go to the next one. But this human was different. The sight of her face and the sound of her voice ringing in his ears made him feel how he used to back when he was human, before things went wrong...
When Devin got there, he looked up towards her with expectant eyes. He didn't feel he'd have to say something unless she asked it. After all, he could probably guess by the look on her face the questions she had, but why answer unspoken words?

Darius was a bit more athletic than his sister, and only panted lightly, mainly from the worry of not making it in time. He stopped next to Dev, skidding slightly on the slick, linoleum tiles. His bag banged against his hip, the corner of a weighty text book jabbing into him. He ignored it, the small ache quickly fading.
Darius looked at the girl, and then the other guy who stood with her. For a moment, he wondered which was supposed to show them to class; they were going to be late as it was. Then he noticed the questioning, almost lost look on the guy's face; it wasn't that noticable, but you noticed it more when you felt that way yourself. It was the girl who would be their guide...probably.
Darius coughed. "Excuse me," he broke in. Even if he was a joker, he did like to make a good impression by being polite. "Shouldn't we be going now? We're going to be late." As the words came out, he realized how impatient he sounded, and mentally winced. The girl was cute; even more important to make an impression.

Rose felt that if her heart beat any faster or harder, it would burst right out of her chest. A deep pink had colored her cheeks as soon as Griffin mentioned the word 'beautiful.' Still on edge and more nervous than she had felt in months, Rose hurridly tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear as she always did when she wasn't quite sure what to say. But, of course, it fell right back to it's original position a second later. But the action always gave her a few seconds to sort out the raging thoughts of her mind. "Oh, yeah, of course," she said, trying not to sound to eager in her agreement even as she stood up from her seat at not the most graceful or calm speed. "I'm already showing two people around here anyways, so it's no problem at all."
When Devin arrived, shouting a sorry, Rose couldn't take her eyes away from Griffin for at least a full second. Finally, though, she turned her head to face Devin and Darius, or who she assumed to be the two siblings that she had been expecting. "Oh, no, it's fine," Rose said to Devin, rushing her words unconsiously. Darius's impatient comment had caused Rose to feel even more anxious and late than she had before. "It actually worked out great. It gave us enough time to expand our group. This is Griffin." Rose motioned with her hand to the boy next to her, trying not to let her eyes stray to him again. "And, Griffin, this is Devin. And Darius."
Taking on step down the hall, away from Griffin and closure to Darius and Devin, Rose glanced at the clock and noticed that the bell would ring at any second. At least she would have the excuse of showing her three charges the main office and the way to their homeroom. "Well, the bell is about to ring, so we can go straight to homeroom. I can show you all where your lockers are afterwards." It came out as more of a suggestion than Rose had wanted, but her brain was only starting to become unjambled enough to take in the unnatural red hair of Devin and the handsome facial features of Darius.

Griffin smiled a bit as he was introduced. A slight wave of the hand was the simplest "Hello" he could manage without words. Noticing Rose's rushed words, he couldn't help but feel a tingle inside. He knew there may be something between them, and it excited him to know that. Or... at least hope.
He walked along, trying to follow Rose. He couldn't help but stay closer to her than he should have. It was becoming unconscious. He breathed a deep breath, despite the fact he didn't even need to. Slowly, he realized more and more that he was falling in love. Whether he liked it or not, this would be a change. Good or bad, something would stir in his soul. It would cause something to be different. He may have a chance.

(Sorry, short with little muse. As soon as they get done with the school day, we'll do a time skip to that evening, right after the sun goes down. Then we can bring the rest of the monsters out ) Devin nodded and replied, "That sounds like a good idea," then hurried along after Rose, glancing back at her brother every now and again. She avoided looking at the other boy - there was something about him that she just didn't like, and she wasn't sure why. Inside, she was chastising herself for making a judgment about him before she'd properly talked to him. But Devin couldn't help it. He just bothered her. She didn't really know how to convey that message to Darius without saying it aloud, or seeming rude, so she kept it to herself for a little while and concentrated on more important things, like trying to remember her schedule. They'd rounded a doorway into homeroom and taken their seats before she knew it and the teacher looked only mildly annoyed that they'd interrupted his lecture. Devin wrote a quick note to Darius which said: I'm surprised she didn't make a comment about me being a girl. When the teacher's back was turned to the board, she passed it to him with a grin.

Griffin followed the rest until he was in his homeroom. He cockily sat in his seat even with the teacher giving him a glare. With a trick of his eyes once more, barely noticable to the human eye (although it didn't matter since most weren't looking directly at him), the teacher turned back to the board to continue teaching. Griffin scoffed quickly and looked at the board with an unamused expression. Geez, why did I decide to come here again? He thought to himself. I guess the little tinge of humanity I have left stirred something. Ugh. I have to stop being such a drama king. Nostalgia. Gimme a break. He couldn't stop talking to himself inside his mind. That was one of the downsides of always being alone. It sometimes tended to make you just slightly insane. When he was finally able to stop, he looked out the window, not even really paying attention.
After about half an hour he put his head back and sighed quietly. It would've been louder but he didn't really want to attract attention. Usually, the case would have been different, but since his throat was just itching to feel the warmth of blood running down it, stares in his direction would mean disaster for whoever was closest to him. Not that he cared about the humans anyway, but it would uncover his secret, forcing him to leave the town. He really didn't want to have to do that, considering he had just gotten settled here and was ready to unveil his whole plan. It was time for action. School was just a 'sideproject' he could go to when he was bored or needed something to do.
At the moment, he completely and utterly forgot about Rose. His mind was on other subjects. He was wondering who he should murder tonight, when the moon would shine over the small city. He knew there were werewolves around, but since he wasn't sure who or where they were, he decided to call off that possibilty. Also, usually, he would already know his victim, but in this place he wanted to have fun. He wanted to be able to basically pick the humans he fed on at random. After all, what's the fun in planning everything out? There is none.
Suddenly he heard a voice. It was the teacher again. "Mr. Gold is there a reason why you are staring out the window rather than the board?" Griffin turned, broken out of his thoughts. "I ugh...." he was rather shocked just how long he had spent thinking. That's what boredom tended to do to him. He always thought a lot about random stuff or about his plans, but being bored tended to push the overdrive button on that action. With no other option other than compelling, he tried to make it as unnoticable as possible. Any other human would have just figured his pupils were extending and minimizing due to the varying light in the room. "I wasn't staring out the window. I was looking at the board, Mr......" He had to make it as convincing as possible that he really was new. The teacher rolled his eyes and said "Johnson. My name is Mr. Johnson. And if you say you weren't looking out the window and you really were paying attention, then I'm sorry. I was mistaken. Let's carry on with the class! We only have about fifteen minutes left!"
Griffin grinned as he got away with the compulsion. He kinda hoped no one noticed, but on the other hand, he honestly didn't care.
OOC: LOL, sorry I did such a long post. I had a lot of inspiration XD

Darius pulled out a pencil of his own before unfolding the crumpled paper. His fingers fumbled over the painted, yellow surface of the slim stick, but he soon had it grasped in his hand.
I'm surprised she didn't make a comment about me being a girl.
His small grin faltered as he tried to decipher the sloppy letters; his sister's handwriting wasn't very legible at times...how her teachers could stand days of this, he had no idea. His smile widened into a full grin as he made it out, and scrawled a simple emoticon in response, something he often texted to his friends.
XD
He liked to write the least amount he could, prefering to save the rest of the sheet for doodling. He wasn't actually that bad, compared to some of his fellow peers. He was about to pass it back when he was struck by inspiration. He drew a cartoon-ish rendering of the teacher, complete with her hooked nose, exaggerated slightly, along with beady eyes, and all too prominent wrinkles.
While clearly dramatized, it could be recognized as the teacher. He passed it back to his sister, labeling his small picture just in case. A sly, teasing grin accompanied it.
