What is it that made you want to create fan characters/fanfics for the movie/book in the first place? I can barely begin to tell you how many fan characters I have (not all are on the site, obviously)....

Me, personally, it was just to have something connecting me to a movie/book I really loved; someway for me to write my own stories and draw my own ideas involved with official animated characters. :3

I originally started creating characters for a wolf roleplay site that I made with my friends. After a few years it became inactive and I started writing my own story about my first Roleplay character ever, Stormy. Most of the characters I have now originated from that story, and others came from later stories and doodles.
Only three of my characters have ever been based on something besides my own imagination (they were based on different anime), but I've completely changed them so they have nothing to do with the anime they were inspired by anymore. ^-^

Topic moved, I think this is the best place for it but I'm not an expert with fan works so if you disagree, please pm me.

My original reason isn't listed either. It was actually when Catwhohas14tails made Kiona, she wanted her to have a mate (eventually atleast), so I was curious. I didn't have any wolf characters at the time, so I gave it a shot and, well, it worked out I guess lol. From there I created more to work with our story. You really get into it if you get creative, it can be fun.

I create characters to roleplay, make fanfics and to make images. It is fun and helps if im dieing for boredom which happens alot lol. I think most members create characters for this reason.

It depends.
I started making fan related characters because I like to create story's and since they are fan-made, they already have an existing setting. However, recently I have been pulling away from fan characters and been making my own original ones, so that I may challenge my own creativity and even make my idea into something real. Like an animation, book, comic, etc.
