I know that a lot of members may have a few questions as to what a "Commission/Purchased Fan Art" is. Well, I'd like to "dedicate" this topic to those questions! I've taken a few that are popular; but feel free to ask your own!

o What is a commission, or purchased fan art?

A commission, or purchased fan art, is when a person pays another person -- normally an artist -- to do a specific job for them. In this case, it's members on Balto Source/TLK Source paying other members for artwork or other merchandise (some artists allow scultures, cards, etc.). \

Example:
Your favorite artist, IDrawWhatYouLike, is taking commissions. You love his/her art, and they don't take requests. Their prices are reasonable, so you send them what you'd like and the price it'd be (for a different "category"). After you pay IDrawWhatYouLike, s/he will send you your picture! Some artists offer originals, others prints, or copied images of the original.

o Why do I have to pay them, why don't they take requests?!

This is actually up to the artist -- I won't put words into their mouths, I will only tell the most popular of answers for this question.

Art supplies are expensive. Even if they use digital art, their program(s) may be outdated and crash, thus they need to buy a new one. Some artists have a first job, and use their art sales to get a little money on the side (b'sides, they have to pay bills, too!). Uk and myself take commissions to pay for our comic's, Akona Eros (Uk) and Lost Genesis (mine). Having money that we don't have to worry too much about going to our household bills helps to support the funding for these projects.

Don't get me wrong -- some artists take commissions and requests.

o Commissions and requests? Why not just one?

See above, firstly. Normally an artist will take requests to better their art; the commissions are 90% of the time "better" than requests, anyway (after all, they're being payed to draw!).

o Who can take commissions?

This is actually very, very hard to decide. I don't suggest that, if you're a beginner in art, you take commissions. Why? Your art may not be "up to par" to another artist, and you'll lose "business." You need to get to a comfortable, "likeable" level in your art that would give people a reason to pay you for a special, timeless piece of work.

o Have any more questions? Feel free to ask them in this topic or PM me -- I'll be happy to answer! -- and they'll be posted on this list for other members.
