Personally,I don't know why some people dislike Balto's figure in the sequels. I like them. I especially love Maurice Lamarche doing Balto's voice in the sequels. Kevin Bacon was excellent, but I sorta prefer Maurice better.

I will definitely say the first hands down. I say the first for 3 reasons:
1- His voice (Kevin Bacons) was perfect, he had the ruggedness and at the sametime caring. It painted a picture of someone whos had to live a hard life but still has a heart.
2-He looked better, because in that time, he was hand drawn. Yes, i know they had to draw him in the sequels and they didnt pull any Pixar stuff. However, you could tell how much they cared about his look in the first. The artists spent a lot of time working on his figure and colors. In the sequels it kinda seemed like they just threw him together and got a decent voice actor. No offense to Maurice, but his voice wasn't one that i thought fit Balto.
3- As stated before, he looked like a wolfdog in the first, and you could tell when they showed the huskies and the wolves. The traits form both were visible in Balto. I mean, in the second, he looked like just another Dog. And in the last one, well he looked like he was 13 and confused about whether or not he should be a dog haha.

Mostly because it's the original and first one. He looks yonger, cutter, and sweet. And the style of the animators is far better.
In the sequels they changed his colors and the tip of his tail( in the 3rd movie).

Agreed.
And they did? I didn't notice his tail tip looking any different o.o

The 1st movie no doubt.I guess many of us also know that the 1st movie characters were drawn from real live huskies in the studio (Similar to Motion Capture). The script, animation, artwork is the best in all of the 3 movies.

Honestly the 2nd & 3rd movie were really dissapointing & it kinda makes me mad to see the 2nd & 3rd movie (Mostly the 2nd movie) ruined the great essence of the 1st movie...

I do not dislike the other figures, but Balto 1 is my favorite.
Why? mostly because its the original. That's the figure and image I grew up with, but also because I feel the style in the first is much better then the 2nd and 3rd. I also love Kevin Bacon as his voice.

Since you're only talking about the look, well, Balto 1 for sure. It's clear that the higher budget of the original move allowed the producer to hire a better staff of animators, and the result is certanly better.

Yes, I agree with that. The artist for Balto 1 was way better and realistic than 2 and 3. Also, the storyline was loosly based off of the origional story. Balto 2 and 3 only follows his later life. It's like making sequels about the old lady in Titanic. It doesn't make sense, does it?

...now when you say 'changed', do you just mean how they extended the darker brown to the end of the tail?
I don't think it was that big a change. Barely noticeable even.
